The rosters for this year's SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, taking place on July 8th in Kansas City, were announced today. Complete rosters and current-season statistics for all 50 players named to the U.S. and World teams can be found right over here, and the game will be televised live via ESPN2 and MLB.TV.

From the press release:

"Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25-man rosters for each club, the U.S. Team and the World Team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to participate.

The teams feature 17 former first round draft picks (U.S. – 13; World – 4), six players picked in Compensation Round A (U.S. – 5; World – 1) and four second round picks (all U.S.). Among the 17 first round picks, nine were selected in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, including each of the top four overall picks. The World Team features players from 11 different countries and territories outside the 50 United States. The Dominican Republic is represented by eight players, followed by Venezuela (six), Cuba (two) and Puerto Rico (two)."

Should I be surprised that Arcia was the Twins Futures rep, rather than Sano?

Nah, roster already has three top-shelf third basemen in Castellanos, Arenado, and Olt. No reflection on Sano; Arcia is two levels ahead of him, too, and probably a better candidate this year.

Except that Sano would play for the World team, and the guys you listed are on the US team.

Wow, that was weird.

I notice that Alfredo Marte isn't listed among Kevin's top 20 Arizona prospects. I'm seeing a power-hitting 23 year old at AA. I'm behind the curve on this guy --- anything you can tell us to fill out the profile a bit, Bradley? Thanks.

So fatigued with the MLB taking good ideas and then half-assing the execution. AL vs. NL just seems like a no-brainer here. We're watching substandard guys on the World team for the sake of a meaningless distinction. Don't like AL/NL, how about East/West? Anything to get rid of the World slots that go to lesser players. I say that despite dying to see Bruce Rondon pitch. That said, the US pitching staff is intense. Can't wait to see this.

This all comes from Bud Selig's desperate need for baseball to be more like other sports and have this major international competition vibe. I've always felt that one of the best things about baseball was its lack of nationalism, that baseball fans didn't care where a player came from as long as he played for my team.

Has Carlos Martinez's stock taken a hit this year? He was one of the more talked about players last year and it doesn't look like the world staff is particularly strong.

I believe he's been/is still hurt.
