In partnership with SiriusXM, Baseball Prospectus is pleased to announce that on Sunday, July 17, we will begin a new radio show, MLB Roundtrip with Baseball Prospectus, co-hosted by BP’s Kevin Goldstein and Steven Goldman with Sirius XM veteran Mike Ferrin. Appearing every Sunday on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio channel at 11 PM eastern, the program will feature three hours of the quirky and original analysis, insight, and humor for which BP has become known since its founding in 1996.

“Everyone at Baseball Prospectus is excited to be involved with MLB Network Radio,” said co-host Goldstein. “With both Mike and Steven on board, the amount of wit and baseball intelligence in the room is staggering and we look forward to entertaining, informing, and interacting with our fans and listeners.”

“The interactive aspect is the part I’m most looking forward to,” Goldman agreed. “Normally, we writers spend our time in monastic isolation. If you’re one of the fortunate few you get to go on a book tour once in awhile, and of course you have comments and email, but it’s not the same as getting to go ‘to the mats’ with the readers in real time. Add in the up-to-the-minute factor that comes with following the weekly eight o’clock game and you really have Baseball Prospectus with a new kind of immediacy.”

"I'm very excited to have Baseball Prospectus as part of Roundtrip," Ferrin said. "I've long counted on BP for expert analysis and even better writing. With Kevin and Steven I get to spend three hours every week talking baseball with two of my favorite people and friends in the industry. I'd say it's gonna be 'the bomb,' but I'm pretty sure kids don't say that anymore."

Brent Gambill, executive producer of MLB Network Radio, said, “I've been a Baseball Prospectus subscriber since the website’s inception. It has long been a goal to bring BP content to MLB Network Radio. I couldn't be more pleased to welcome Baseball Prospectus's first-rate ideas and analysis to the SiriusXM Sports family.”

MLB Roundtrip with Baseball Prospectus with Kevin Goldstein, Steven Goldman, and Mike Ferrin, airing 11 PM EST Sundays on SiriusXM MLB Network Radio (XM 89, Sirius 209) beginning on July 17, 2011. Going beyond the back of the baseball card—live.

Congratulations. Will this broadcast replace the podcasts?

Podcast is NOT going anyway. As you know, if you are a listener, the podcast is a VERY VERY different thing.

Saying your podcast is different from broadcast radio is kind of like saying some of your musical guests are different from Gregorian Chant.

It's just not something that can be adequately explained using words.

Yes, but it would be kind of cool to have some Gregorian chants on the podcast.

Or even some chants for Luke Gregerson ...

I have Sirius but I don't get channel 209 because I would have to play extra. Will you be posting it here as a podcast?

Premium level subscribers at BP should totally be able to download these shows at no extra cost.

That's just not going to be the case. The show will be on their channel, at that time. We're just co-hosting. I understand you want it, but it's not part of their business model. That said, they do offer 30-day free trials, and I think you'd find it's worth it. I'm not just saying that, I've been a customer for five years.

Kevin, it's a big step for BP, and I think a smart move by Sirius as well. I'm a subscriber for a few years myself. It's a timeslot that probably gets a lot more air time on the left coast than it will on the right - but ya gotta start somewhere.

Good job, and good luck!

Great news! Mike Ferrin is the best host on SiriusXM. I'm glad you guys are teaming up.

Will this be available for podcast content for XM subscribers? When Sirius and XM merged, many of the good XM baseball programs (Baseball Confidential, etc.) disappeared and were never replaced.

Just as an aside, I asked the above question because of the timeslot. At 11pm on a Sunday evening, I'm not generally listening to MLB Network Radio. I listen to it very often, but almost never at that time. Thus, I'd love a podcast I can listen to at work.

While you're there, can you get XM/Sirius to bring back Fungus 53?

Posted updated with some late comments from Mike Ferrin, who was stuck on a spy plane overflying the Formosa Strait.

Monastic isolation? I didn't realize Yankee yammerings required the focus of a Trappist.
Snide remarks aside, I look forward to the show.

Just a few other notes about the show...

- The last two hours of the show (originally airing between midnight - 2:00 AM ET) will replay Monday mornings from 2:00 AM - 7:00 AM ET in case it's easier for some people to listen during that time while on the way to work, etc.

(2) SiriusXM will post three minutes of audio clips of the show each week which we'll be able to share with the public free of charge.

Obviously we wish we could give you more, but that's all were legally allowed to provide.

Is there an ability to record shows on SiriusXM? Obviously I know it's possible through a number of means, but is it inherent in their technology?

There are receivers that can record. One of them is the Inno, which is on the XM side of the company.

Some models record. I have the XMP3, which acts as an MP3 player as well as a satellite radio, and it records at the touch of a button.

This is terrific - thanks to all of those who worked hard behind the scenes to make it happen & Brent and team as well. They're a great group of guys.

This is totally awesome! I haven't had my satellite radio for long, but a few weeks ago I started to listen to Mike Ferrin (who is great) pretty much every Sunday night anyway, mostly because I discovered he has interviews with one of you guys regularly. But three hours of you? Might be more than I can take...naaah!

I'm pretty certain you don't need me to tell you this, but I hope there will be Twitter reminders before the show's start time for those of us with horrible memory skills.

Not only will there be reminders, but we will have an open thread here on the site so that you can comment on what we're saying and that we will respond to on the air.
