This chat will be to discuss the Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Prospects List, released today.

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: Icon Alert, Craig Goldstein

Yuri (Israel): Jo Adell is great and all but this Angels farm system still seems depleted and disappointing, like everything Craig has ever done. Anyway, Jo Adell reminds me of prime Matt Kemp, is that a reasonable comp?

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: I think the shape will be a little different, better glove, more game pop, maybe more .270-.280 than .300+. I've used Justin Upton before, although Kemp is a better physical comp for Adell (who somehow keeps finding good weight to add). Kemp also had a weird peak among all-star level players, with the MVP season following a disaster year, and uneven seasons around them.

The Colonel (Pasadena, CA): I was excited about Taylor Ward but I suppose everyone raked in AAA this year. Could he hit enough to be a starter or is he more of a bench bat?

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: There are some AAAAish markers in the profile at this point. Now, he doesn't have to get much of that PCL pop into MLB games to be a useful catcher, but the major league sample has been really boom/bust so far and mostly bust.

Brandon (MO ): Could a healthy Chris Rodriguez could be a top of the rotation guy?

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: Man, I really liked him coming out of the draft, but the health track record is bad enough now, that we will have to see what "healthy" actually looks like over a full season first. And even coming out of the draft I was more on him as a number three starter type than a frontline guy.

lipitorkid (Costa Mesa): Q1: Which of the Angel's prospects is most likely to be traded for useable pitching help? It looks like we have a logjam at OF... Q2: If the Angels sign pitching help do you think Suarez will be sent back down for most of the season? What does he need to work on the most?

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: I suppose I could see them trying to flip Marsh or Adams for an arm, but I also don't know if one good pitcher is moving the needle too much given that their rotation posted a 5.64 ERA last year. I have no good solution here. Suarez was below even that figure though, and while he's had ~25 AAA starts, he is young so sending him back in hopes of some consolidation or a reset isn't the worst idea.

Mike (CA): Jeremiah Jackson has some red flags but could someone argue he's #2 in this system purely from a fantasy upside perspective?

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: Maaaaaybe. I'd have a hard time getting him over Adams and Marsh even on pure 5x5 upside. We did order 4-7 in this system a bunch of different ways though.

Matt (Boston): Not really a prospect question, but all I hear everywhere is the Angels should sign Gerrit Cole. But why NOTHING on Anthony Rendon? I’m not sure Zack Cozart will ever be healthy or good again. I’m not convinced Tommy La Stella is a 30-homer All-Star suddenly at age 30. Both are gone in 2021. As is Andrelton Simmons. Leaving an infield of David Fletcher and...uh...yeah. There isn’t help coming soon from the farm. I can squint and see a solid top-3 of a rotation in Ohtani,Heaney, and Canning despite the risk with Sandoval being a decent back end guy. I can’t see the infield being even passable beyond 2020. Why not try to get Rendon + a lesser pitcher for the same price as Cole? Then deal prospects for a Dylan Bundy or Caleb Smith high-upside type that shouldn’t cost a ton.

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: Sure. I mean they should probably sign both, but I think broadly speaking the upgrade from Peters/Barria/Suarez group to Cole is just going to be more significant than Rendon over some league average IF options.

kevibear (Long Beach): If every organization's minor league system entered into a 5 on 5 basketball tournament, would anybody even challenge the Angels system? Also, Orlando Martinez sure sounds Kole Calhoun-y

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: Marlins have Monte Harrison who was a pretty good HS player and don't lack for athleticism elsewhere. I worry about everyone's ACL involved in this endeavor. I don't hate the Calhoun comp for Martinez either although the latter is a better athlete.

Los Angeles Angels Top 10 Chat: We will roll on with Oakland middle of the week. Hope you like lefties with great stuff.
