I had the chance to present the Dick Martin Award for 2009 tonight at the Phillies organizational dinner. Scott Sheridan and his staff were humbled and honored by the award, while David Montgomery and his organization seem to understand the value a great medical staff has for a winning baseball team.
The Winter Meetings got underway with most teams arriving in Indianapolis, with lots of Hot Stove League talk heating up the lobbies. There’s still a lot more smoke than fire at this stage, but it appears several teams, players, and agents will be making news before the meetings break up Thursday. Expect much more action at the start of week than the latter, however.
between the good medical staff and getting rid of the vet's turf, i'm still getting used to actually getting to see the phillies' best players play and not read about their rehab.
Will: With the permission of OneFlapDown, I propose, in all seriousness, an annual Dan Rowan Award to the medical staff which contributed most to their organization's slide into the cellar. First recipient: The New York Mets.
LOL. Anything good? Did they know he needed surgery? Not the the Phils pen was stellar, but he did cost them a WS game. Sour grapes I know, but still interesting.
If I'm a player, I'd boycot the HOF ceremonies and the exhibition game played there in protest. In fact, I might even stage a one game league wide walk-out in protest of Miller's exclusion. Yes, he was that important. It would be like NASA failing to recognize Niel Armstrong on principal.
