Multiple sources have confirmed to me that Josh Beckett has a strained oblique. The injury occurred in a recent start, but was minor and treated normally. He exacerbated the injury in a bullpen session and may miss the Game 1 start he was expected to make. There’s some discussion that he could be left off the playoff roster altogether. An announcement from the Sox is expected tomorrow. More as known.
Could the Red Sox have been keeping Beckett's injury HUSH-HUSH hoping the Angels would opt for the playoff schedule requiring only 3 starters? Seems the Angels would have opted for the 4-man rotation setup if they knew Beckett was injured? Thet Red Sox might have trouble finding Bartolo Colon by now.
