For Entertainment Purp…you get the drift.

by Joe Sheehan

As my good friend Pete Schoenke of Rotowire mentioned, he and I like to have some fun with the team totals for wins that come out each winter, be it in Las Vegas or at your friendly neighborhood–if your neighborhood is Antigua–Web server.

With my predictions for team standings up, I can now peek at the numbers–Pete used Sportsbook this year–and see what I like. Comparing my wins projections and the posted numbers yields the following as the biggest gaps:

Team Sheehan Sportsbook Diff
 Giants 61 72 11
 Orioles 57 65.5 8.5
 Phillies 80 87.5 7.5
 Cardinals 69 76 7
 Cubs 94 87.5 6.5
 Blue Jays 81 85 6

Now, that’s strictly by the numbers. I can definitely get behind the Giants and Orioles, and probably the Phillies and Cardinals as well. The other two I’m less excited about. I usually do five of these, so I would add to those four the Angels, listed at 91.5 and unlikely to get to 90 wins.

So if you’re hanging on these, I have the Giants under, Orioles under, Phillies under, Cardinals under and Angels under.

Boy, I’m a pessimist.

One on, one out in the first. Happy Opening Day #2, everyone.
