According to several sources, Kosuke Fukudome has agreed to terms with the Chicago Cubs. The final package is not known, though the last known offer was for four years and nearly fifty million dollars. GM Jim Hendry’s off-season plan involved signing Fukudome to improve his NL Central-winning team after they lost in the opening round of the 2007 playoffs.
The Cubs remain the property of the Tribune Company, as both the sale of the Tribune Company to a Sam Zell-led private group and the sale of the Cubs themselves are on hold. There is no timetable on either, as one can only follow the other. We’ll have updates once numbers are released or discovered.
