Trever Miller can’t win. Nor can he lose, and for that reason he may be going into the record books when the regular season comes to a close. Through last night, the Astros reliever has appeared in 76 games out of the bullpen and has yet to earn a decision. The major league record is currently held by another situational lefty, Scott Aldred, who posted a spotless 0-0 record in 48 games for the Devil Rays in 1998. Jamie Walker was poised to break Aldred’s record last year, but was charged with a loss on September 29 in his 55th appearance.
Boston’s Manny Delcarmen isn’t quite in Miller territory, but he goes into tonight with no decisions in 40 appearances. He’s in line to crack the Top 10 (thanks to William Burke for providing the list):
48 games - Scott Aldred - 1998
43 games - Kelly Wunsch - 2003
42 games - Mike Flanagan - 1992
40 games - Jason Christiansen - 2003
40 games - Larry Andersen - 1982
40 games - Joe Klink - 1990
37 games - Erik Schullstrom - 1995
37 games - Bill Pulsipher - 2001
37 games - Ed Olwine - 1986
36 games - Todd Erdos - 2000
