I know it has taken awhile for these to appear, but as promised, here are the combined outfield rankings. Commentary for each player can be found at one of thesethreelinks.
[UPDATE] Just so everyone knows, as was pointed out in the comments: Jay Bruce wasn’t on the list, but should have been. He was a victim of Excel as I shuffled three separate lists around. Considering I ranked him #7 among right fielders, I would have had to have quite the change in heart to eliminate him from the overall rankings. He’s actually supposed to be #22, while Elijah Dukes is #23 and Lastings Milledge is #24, and so on down the list. Poor Chase Headley gets bumped off of the top 60, but don’t worry Chase, you’re still #61 in my book.
[UPDATE #2] I’m glad you guys are here today. Kevin Kouzmanoff is the man who so sneakily tried to replace Jay Bruce in my top 60 (it all makes sense if I could reverse engineer my Excel actions for you). The list has been updated now, so Headley is back on. It’s been an emotional day for him.
[UPDATE #3] Cody Ross was also part of the Kouzmanoff debacle. I’ve checked through the list again, and that looks like the last problem with it. He’s #28 (the spot Kouzmanoff was originally in all the way back in Update #2). I can’t even muster together a third Headley joke for the update Hat Trick.

I am comfortable with most of the rankings (those are based off of the lists I made in the articles referenced above) but some additional work since then has made me like a few players better; namely, Rick Ankiel and Travis Snider. I’m not about to throw them into the top of the ranks or anything, but if you feel more confident than I do about them based on this list, I have no issue with that.
Is supposed to be on the list, but somehow isn't. Considering I was moving things around in Excel before I made this, I'll say he was accidentally cut out of existence. The list has been updated to reflect where he is supposed to be.
I'm already thinking of Vlad as a 57-year old DH, since that's what he looks like out there.
That being said, he's a 57-year old DH who has some serious reach and can still hit the ball a long way. I'll ask the proper authorities about his PECOTA forecast, though.
Interesting to see Adam Lind ahead of the rest of the (fairly) talented Toronto outfield -- including Rios, a very promising Snider, and a pretty good (but oft-injured) Vernon Wells. I read the Lind snippets before, but I'd like to hear more about this . . . also because he was my next-to-last pick in my draft this past weekend.
Thanks!
PS - I'm also curious about Kevin Kouzmanoff, who shouldn't be called the Crusin' Russian -- perhaps the Mashing Macedonian?
It's all a big misunderstanding, actually. I just messed up something in the formatting and Kouzmanoff stayed on my list while Bruce did not, which was the opposite of what should have happened. The list has been changed to reflect it.
In general, we need more nicknames in baseball, so let's just give him both.
Is this based on a typical 5x5 scoring? I'm in a 15 team OBP league so I'd think the rankings would look quite a bit different. PFM loves Ellsbury when I plug in the specifics of my league, is that due to a premium on steals?
Like all of the other lists, it is a general guide for fantasy leagues, rather than for one specific format. So many people play in leagues with different rules, setups, etc. that I wanted to cover the players who would be used the most, rather than the guys who are best for just one kind of league.
PFM exists, as you said, to aid you along with the rankings for very specific league setups. I'm fine with trusting it to help you guys out in areas where I may be understating a player's value based on your own league, but keep the commentary I include in these lists in mind, as that's more important than the ranking itself.
I've heard Marc's rationale for this (he's just using players at their "primary" positions and doesn't want to duplicate), but it makes no sense. This is an article about fantasy baseball... Leagues where Burrell is not eligible at OF have to be a very small minority. The most logical thing to do would be to include every likely eligible player in every list and simply note where there are duplicates.
Don't be ridiculous. My point is that these rankings are not the final word. Instead of getting upset because you disagree with the number in front of a player, read what Marc wrote about him and treat the whole thing as a starting point.
In this case, Burrell has no ranking whatsoever. As far as treating it at as a starting point, that's how I use Yahoo and other free sources. I was hoping for something more substantial here.
What, you want it to draft for you? If you use Yahoo or whatever as a starting point, then use this to build on top of that. You're still going to intersperse your own judgment, right? If not, why do you even bother playing?
Agreed but it would still be nice to have a little more continuity with these rankings. Why is Burrell not listed as an outfielder when Pablo-I may never see 20 games at catcher-Sandoval is the 9th highest catcher? Why is PECOTA's own Jody Gerut so high when almost equally favored Nelson Cruz has gone missing?
Is there any way to download the excel document? I'm in an AL only league and would like a way to remove the NL guys from contention/see who would fill out the rest of the list if your rankings go deeper. Not a big deal, just be interested who would rank where for a deep AL-Only league.
Not true! I didn't paste from Excel, I just setup the list in Excel and then typed it out. Also, it's ranked 1-61 here in Mozilla. Are you using Firefox, or a different browser?
Isn't Beltran's #1 slot a bit of a risk, given that we don't know how the new Citi (stole our money) Field will play? I read that the outfield walls are pretty high, and that its a slight pitcher's park.

WHAT THE EFFF IS THIS LIST???? Maybe Im missing something, correction, I HAVE TO BE missing something. I dont give a crap what format you are in, if Carlos Lee is the 25 OF taken, there is something really wrong. Hart over Hamilton? Corey Hart is the most overrated player in the league. How on Earth is he ranked over Hamilton, Markakis, Man Ram??? Because he steals 20 bases???? The guy hit .268 last year with 76 runs scored!!!!!
Justin Upton at 10?? REALLY. What has JUSTIN UPTON done to be ranked 5 picks ahead of Matt Holliday, 9 picks ahead of Jason Bay and 15 EFFIN PICKS AHEAD OF CARLOS LEE!!!!!
WOW...all I can say is WOW. I knew something was wrong when I saw Beltran #1 over Braun, but I could have never imagined the stupidy in the rest of the list. BJ Upton over Sizemore??? Ethier, Miledge and Dukes over Lee???
I have to be missing something here..HAVE TO!!! There is no way someone was actually paid to come up with this garbage.
Oh I see, it was a big joke right? OH man, you got me. You had me going there for a minute...HAHAHA..that was a good one.

HAHA...this site is HILARIOUS!!!!!

I guess I got too many - ratings, oh my god. Instead of posting a reply to state why the rankings are good, you guys just hit - instead? Come on now, you guys must be really drinking the Kool-Aid to agree with this Horse____ OF list. I hope some of you guys are in my league and use this list.
I cant wait to hear someone's explanation for why Maggs and Dye are ranked 51 and 52 but JD Drew is at 35, Bradley is at 29 and Ethier is at 20. None of them steal bases so that cant be it. It cant be because they have more value in a keeper league because Bradley and Drew are ranked so much higher and neither has made it though a year healthy. I would LOVE to hear the reasoning behind the rankings.
Really the Lee at 25 just blows my mind! He's one of the most consistent bats in the entire league.
So go ahead you brave flock of sheep, drink the Kool-Aid and hit -...it just makes me stronger!!!!
Although druuu seems to have overreacted just a bit, I agree with his premise that these OF rankings are very weak for most traditional roto or H2H leagues. Hart and Upton are way too high. Lee at 25 and over another personal fav Milledge is makes me giggle. I could go on but that's not the point.
The point is like any other fantasy analysis it should be used as reference and not as scripture. Unless you have a perfect fantasy record there really is no need to be a jerk about things like this.
JC - If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need BP to act fast if they want to charge people for this information So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Change the effin rankings.
Honestly though, if this was just some random free site, I wouldn't have said anything. This is a site that cost money though, so I, and the rest of the subscribers deserve much higher quality than this. I posted this ridiculous OF ranking on some of the leagues Im part of. People thought I was joking, they couldn't believe that this could be anyone's list. I mean come on, Bobby Abreu under Mike Cameron, Felix Pie and Jody Gerut???? Abreu is hitting 3rd in a stacked Angels lineup and is a lock for .280-100-20-100-20. How on Earth can he be ranked so low? My beef is with BP letting this get posted on a site that WE PAY FOR! There has to be some kind of editor that controls the content that's posted on here. It blows my mind that this list was approved by the higher ups.
Once my temporary subscription is up, I will NEVER join this site again. Not just for that, but this site is generally pretty weak. You can get 10 times the info for free at ESPN and better projections for free at fangraphs.com. No wonder why they wouldn't give me a refund ( tried to cancel the same day I joined ). I cant do anything about that now, but I will make sure that everyone knows the truth about this site. Does that make me a jerk? Maybe to some, to others I'm a well informed baseball lover that knows when something stinks.
That's all I have to say about that, enjoy blowing your hard earned money on this site.
Good, then we won't have to read your obnoxious rants. I don't completely agree with the rankings and I don't agree with the list you posted above either. I can make my own valuations, but it's good to get as many different opinions. I found the original OF articles much more useful than the list above and the PECOTA cards even more so. This site is about more than fantasy, though, so if you're just looking for lists of players, yeah, you're probably better off looking elsewhere.
Jay Bruce?
Is supposed to be on the list, but somehow isn't. Considering I was moving things around in Excel before I made this, I'll say he was accidentally cut out of existence. The list has been updated to reflect where he is supposed to be.
