Fantasy Starting Pitcher Planner: Week Nine

10

Paul Sporer

Rough matchups could leave AL-only leaguers scrambling this week, but the NL has a deeper slate of usable starters.

Welcome to the Weekly Pitching Planner. Each week I will cover the pitchers are who slated to make two starts and help you decide who you should start and who you should sit. Sometimes guys will be in the “consider” where they might have one good start, but a second tough one and then your league settings might determine whether or not you should go forward with him. The pitchers will be split by league then by categories:

Auto-Starts – These are your surefire fantasy aces. You paid a handsome sum for them either with an early draft pick or high dollar auction bid so you’re starting them anywhere, anytime. Guys can emerge onto or fall off of this list as the season evolves. There won’t be many – if any – notes associated with these groupings each week. We are starting them automatically so why do I need to expound on how awesome they are and will be in the coming week?

Fantasy Beat: Comparing Mock-Draft Data

2

Jason Collette

NFBC mock drafts appear to paint a more realistic picture than those at Mock Draft Central.

On the most recent episode of the Towers of Power Fantasy Hour (or 2), Paul Sporer and I had the opportunity to interview Greg Ambrosius of STATS LLC. Ambrosius runs their National Fantasy Baseball Championship (NFBC) events, which feature the all-stars of high-stakes fantasy baseball. While the industry may not be as lucrative as the World Series of Poker, NFBC’s top players have made a rather nice living though the competition. The most famous of the players may be Lindy Hinkleman, a pig farmer from rural Idaho who was featured in a USA Today article last season. A few years ago, he pulled off an improbable sweep of both the live and online events, and earned a check for $241,500 from NFBC.

Weekly Planner: Week 22

15

Derek Carty

Derek helps you parse the two-start starters in this week's Planner.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Auto-Starts: Matt Cain (@HOU, @CHC) and Stephen Strasburg (@MIA, vs. STL)

Cain gets about as good a draw as a pitcher can possibly get this week, facing what are perhaps baseball’s two worst offenses.  The only thing that would make this better is if he were facing them at home.

Weekly Planner: Week 14

1

Paul Sporer

Paul helps you pack your team's stat sheet with another week of two-start pitchers.

I have noticed that there are often times when players are listed as two-start pitchers but don’t end up following the plan and reappear on in the WP a week later. I apologize for these, but I am just going off of the data culled together from a few outlets. Obviously those outlets and myself are at the mercy of teams who make changes on a whim, so keep in mind that two-start pitchers are always tentative.

We’re off to a bumpy start in the AL with Matt Moore getting pushed back (and starting twice next week), Felipe Paulino suffering a setback in his rehab, and Felix Doubront getting knocked around by the Blue Jays. Justin Masterson survived Yankee Stadium but needs to be better against Baltimore to save his week.
