BP.com's original column launched in 1996, TA has been where Christina Kahrl ponders the implications of recent roster moves, their impact on managerial tactics or how they reflect organizational behavior. Plus a few too many references to things that have nothing to do with baseball.

Future Shock: The Mock Draft

One expert's educated guesstimate on how things will go down later today.

This one could be a mess folks, and it's all about bonus demands at this point. Right now, you have as many as four high school pitchers-Jacob Turner, Tyler Matzek, Matt Purke, and Shelby Miller-looking for big, big money, with the first three all telling teams they're looking for Rick Porcello-level deals (or more). This has the potential to blow the first round wide open, and turn it into into a very college-oriented first 30 picks, with numerous top talents falling to later picks than initially expected. One team picking in the top ten I spoke to this morning said he still had very little idea of who was going to be picked ahead of his club's choice.

Every Given Sunday: Wish Lists and Intentions

The runners-up take their positions in line for the opening of the off-season market.

The Red Sox looked like a beaten-down and broken-down team as they walked through the tunnel way of Tropicana Field to the team bus last Sunday night. The Red Sox had lost Game Seven of the ALCS about an hour earlier to the Rays, their chance to stake a claim as the team of the decade with a third World Series title in five years delayed, missing their opportunity to become baseball's first repeat champions since the Yankees won three World Series in a row from 1998-2000. "Our guys gave everything they could possible give," exhausted Red Sox manager Terry Francona said as the last of his players filed out of the visiting clubhouse. "I really don't think they had anything else left in the tank. I'm as proud of this team as any of the five teams I've managed since coming to the Red Sox, and that includes two teams that won World Series. These last couple of months was the most fun I've ever had here. It was tremendous."

The Indians' pair of deals do them all sorts of good, the Pirates finally get off the pot, while the Dodgers have an answer, but may need to ask another question.

A selection of surprise teams, good programs, and underrated college squads you should keep in mind following this year's season.

Many of us have already began rejoicing that baseball is back, in as much as pitchers and catchers reporting represents the return of baseball. But this Friday baseball will be back in another sense, as the college baseball season's uniform start date will see almost an entire nation's worth of universities hit the field for the first time. Since the New Year, we have gone over the nuances of the college game, the changes it will undergo, the players likely to be the most dominant, and we have gone through the teams themselves. After looking at the 2007 Omaha teams and then reviewing last year's next-best teams last week, I wanted my last pre-season college piece to review 16 more teams that could make some noise in 2008. It's a mix of good programs and underrated programs.

Some teams still try and some decide to punt. The day-after hangovers of the trading deadline.

However, Isringhausen can state one fundamental fact about his team's chances of repeating as World Series champions. "We're still mathematically alive," Isringhausen said. "Until you're eliminated, you always have a chance. And if you have a chance, then there is always the possibility of something good happening."
