Fantasy Categorical Breakdowns: RBI: A Deeper Dive

3

Greg Wellemeyer

Looking at under-the-radar producers to see if they can help your fantasy squads in 2016.

Bissell and Collins led off our Fantasy Categorical Breakdown on RBI by looking at the general landscape and some over- and underachievers. I’ve got the deep dive today and I’m going to resist the urge to simply list the projected 3-4-5 hitters on solid offenses that aren’t standard depth contributors.

Fantasy Categorical Breakdowns: RBI: Over/Underachievers

1

Matt Collins

A look at what boosted Nolan Arenado, Kendrys Morales, and co., and what sank the likes of Victor Martinez and Marcell Ozuna.

Yesterday, George Bissell broke down the landscape of the league as far as runs and RBI go, and the results shouldn’t be too surprising. These are highly contextualized stats that rely heavily on teams and lineup placement, making it hard to predict who will excel in these categories and who will disappoint. Today, I’ll be looking at five players who exceeded expectation in the RBI department, and five players who disappointed. I’ll also attempt to determine whether these trends can be expected to continue into 2016, or if they were one-year flashes in the pan.

George Bissell

These counting stats don't have much predictive value, but they're still relevant in most fantasy circles.

A look at the hitters who could outperform their PECOTA projections in RBI.

One of the fun ways we all try to outsmart our opponents in fantasy is by searching for hidden value in players who, for one reason or another, we suspect have the ability to outpace their projections (and, relatedly, their draft cost). Our Darkhorses series features staff picks for players who could very well outpace their PECOTA projections for the year and provide the top overall production in one of the standard five-by-five categories. We’ve all picked one player currently projected by PECOTA to fall outside of the top 10 and one longer-shot player currently projected outside of the top 25. We’ll take a look at offense this week and pitching next. For the earlier editions in this series, click below:
