Interleague Report: Week One

5

Jeff Quinton

In the debut edition, Jeff looks at the DH options of the NL clubs who will visit AL parks and the lineup changes for AL clubs losing the DH.

I am excited to introduce our weekly fantasy baseball Interleague Report. With interleague play now being year-round, we can benefit from keeping tabs on teams that have played or will be playing games in opposing leagues. The plan is to give you helpful info whether it relates to daily or weekly lineups, waiver or FAAB pickups, or changes in positional eligibility. The Interleague Report will cover last week, this week, and the following week.

The fantasy crew tackles a variety of questions, including one from an owner with a chance to secure two of the highest-ranked players in the game.

Every Friday, we are going to publish questions from our unofficial mailbag. We find that some of you email multiple members of the staff with the same question, while others hit us up at fantasyhour@baseballprospectus.com. We have decided to share the knowledge, anonymously, with the populous, and allow you to ask additional questions in the comments for the fantasy staff to address.

In my league, we use the normal $260 budget during the auction, but once the season begins we can buy anyone with FAAB money regardless of the price at which we get them. For example, i need to replace a guy who isn’t cutting it, his salary at the auction is $1, and I didn’t leave any money on the table at the auction. However, say I get a guy for $10 with FAAB bid; he can replace the $1 guy.

Punk Hits: A Love (Hate) Letter From Arizona

20

Ian Miller

Food and Loafing at spring training.

If you set out to design a place that I would hate, it would look a lot like Arizona.

It’s got natural beauty, sure, but it’s usually way too hot, or too cold, to enjoy. Everything is spread out, Houston- or Los Angeles-style; you have to drive everywhere to get anywhere. And once you get there, odds are “there” is a prefab thing conceived by a team of hospitality management experts.

The Keeper Reaper: First, Third, and DH for 10/14/11

17

Michael Street

This week's Keeper Reaper looks at a pair of young third basemen and two older hitters on the other side of the diamond, with a Tatman in between.

Reader requests are the best part about keeper columns, since they show me what the BP market is interested in hearing about and offer a nice cross-section of talent to look at. This week features all reader requests from last week, and you’re welcome to add more in the comments section below.

The tater trots for August 13: Uggla keeps it up and Blake Davis has a great story to tell.

Going through the home run list prior to timing the trots, it seemed like a pretty typical Saturday. A home run here and there, maybe two or three home runs in every other game or so. And then I got down to the Padres/Reds game, where eight home runs were hit - seven by Cincinnati! That ball was just flying out of Great American Ballpark yesterday afternoon, especially off the bats of Miguel Cairo and Ryan Hanigan, who had two home runs apiece. You just can't explain things sometimes.

The tater trots for August 7: four different first-career home runs and a man tumbles over the fence in Wrigley Field.

Four different players added themselves to the lifetime home run leaderboard yesterday, tying the great Duane Kuiper with their first career home runs. Jose Constanza (19.6 seconds) and Johnny Giavotella (22.13 seconds) came through with pretty standard trot times, but Brett Lawrie (17.95 seconds) and Bryan Petersen (17.03 seconds) were nothing of the sort. When I first started the Tater Trot Tracker, I expected to see quite a few super-quick trots from players hitting their first career home runs. That didn't turn out to be the case, but you'd never know it from Lawrie and Petersen.

The tater trots for June 21: Konerko's fifth straight game, Ramos' walkoff.

Summer is officially here.

The tater trots for June 19: may be no better day for walkoffs than Sunday.

I have to apologize for how late this got up tonight. A lunch appointment kept me from doing the Tracker during my normal time, and then computer problems turned a 30-minute session into two-plus hours. Fun times.

The tater trots for April 22: Ryan Braun and Miller Park celebrate his contract extension; Ike Davis' reviewed HR; Paul Konerko watches his blast go foul; Brandon Phillips and Carlos Gomez race for the quickest trot of the night.

With three rainouts around the league Friday night, it was an abbreviated night in home runs. That didn't stop the night from being full of intriguing home runs and trots, though. There was a home run awarded upon review, a pitcher's home run, a walkoff blast, and a few incredibly slow and incredibly fast trots to enjoy.
