Ben and Sam talk to Kevin Goldstein about the amateur draft, his scouting assignments, the Astros' system, and more.

Harry breaks down the PITCHf/x debuts of two promising Astros arms.

Here at Baseball Prospectus, we don't hold grudges. So, when the Astros hired Mike Fast, no one took it out on their prospect rankings. Even when they hired Kevin Goldstein, and a real opportunity to get back at the poachers was presented, things remained cordial.

Now our old friends work for a club that doesn't get much love. But they did trot out a pair of pitchers in the last couple weeks that Jason Parks covered in his 2013 rankings. With a little bit of PITCHf/x data in hand, let's talk about Paul Clemens and Mike Foltynewicz. We'll give them a little love, tough love if required, but nothing like the love Gio Gonzalez shows his hand.

Another piece on the Astros, but a good one, at least.

By now you've read too many articles about Jeff Luhnow and his plans for the Astros to keep track of them all. Even so, Richard Justice's latest at MLB.com brings some new information to the table. Here's a snippet:

Amazon.com gives us good evidence of just what kind of trendsetter Kevin Goldstein really is.

Earlier this week, I got it in my mind that I finally needed to buy a real, actual (nice) stopwatch. Remembering that our very own Kevin Goldstein has a very strong opinion about what the best stopwatch is, I went searching for a tweet I remembered him sending out once where he voiced that opinion (I know, I know, I was shocked to see Kevin voice an opinion too!).

Here's that tweet I found, complete with the proper stopwatch make and model:

Value Picks: First, Third, and DH for 5/8/12

Michael Street

Looking for a replacement for your injured third baseman? Michael looks at plenty of hot-corner options this week, especially in Playing Pepper.

As Jason Collette and Paul Sporer covered in BP’s Towers of Power Fantasy Hour podcast this week, four front-line third-base qualifiers—Evan Longoria, Mat Gamel, Kevin Youkilis, and Pablo Sandoval—hit the DL this past week, leaving fantasy owners scrambling at an already-thin position. While many of the replacement players are marginal, sometimes a warm body is all you need to keep your fantasy squad afloat until more help arrives via an early-season callup. I’ll examine a few of those hot corner replacement options in this week’s column.

Some comments in a BPro chat last week inspired me to share my scorecard from a recent game.

On Thursday, during our all-day, Opening Day chat marathon, I made a casual observation about Prince Fielder bobbling a ball at first-base and tossing it to the pitcher for the out rather than running to the bag himself:
