The tater trots for May 11: Josh Hamilton's two home runs, Carlos Beltran's two home runs, and whole bunch more.

It was a very busy night Friday night. Overall, 42 home runs were hit. Among those were a pinch-hit grand slam, a game-tying ninth-inning blast, four multi-home run games, and an extra-innings go-ahead shot. Oh, and Josh Hamilton hit two more home runs. No lack excitement last night, that's for sure.

Value Picks: Outfielders for 5/11/12

Ibanez, Reddick, and Dyson get the VP label this week

There was a common perception that Jayson Werth is injury prone, but he went almost four years between stints on the disabled list (his previous being May 23, 2008). His loss hurts fantasy owners, though not nearly as much as it is likely to hurt the on-base-challenged Nationals. Meanwhile, mixed-league afterthought Rick Ankiel becomes a much better risk; the team really needs his power, even if he brings little else to the table offensively. In the fantasy realm, however, owners can do a lot better when searching for a replacement in most league formats, which is where Value Picks comes in...

The tater trots for May 8 were dominated by Josh Hamilton's four home runs versus the Orioles in Baltimore.

The night was dominated by one ultra-rare occurrence that had only happened 15 times before: Cesar Izturis's home run for the Brewers, the 16th home run of his career. I suppose a few people were also talking about the four home runs Josh Hamilton put up against the Baltimore Orioles last night, too.

Value Picks: Outfield for 8/31/11

Extreme power and speed picks join a very exciting VP week for outfielders.

Value Pick outfielders performed like they'd been hit by a hurricane this past week, but the batter Ozzie Gullen calls “The Tank” (Dayan Viciedo) is up, causing belated relief in Chicago as Adam Dunn hasn't been striking out for a few days now. And this author risks becoming “Rocket Man” as yet another Astro gets featured in Value Picks. But really, who outside The 610 Loop has paid any attention to the Astros recently, anyway? And a lack of attention often leads to value.

Value Picks: Outfield for 8/10/11

An enigmatic new Mariner and a serious power bat finally get shots in the majors and on VP this week.

There was little value to be had this past week as the seven players on the Value Picks List hit a combined .192/.261/.256, but Dexter Fowler and Josh Reddick had good weeks, and there's reason for hope with some others. As always, some players won't last on the list, while new faces come along to help out fantasy teams in need.

Value Picks: Outfield for 8/3/11

There's lot of outfield turnover in VP this week given all of the weekend's trade deadline moves.

It's been a chaotic week of outfielder moves across the league, and Houston's outfield takes on an entirely new look with Carlos Lee moving to first base and the other two starters moving out of town. Last week's additions both graduate from The List this week, but new faces are getting playing time all around the majors with the shuffling. The holes in San Diego and Seattle will probably see multiple players before the season ends, but none besides Trayvon Robinson have much star power, and the parks will depress the stats of the other pretenders enough that they can be safely ignored for now.
