ANAHEIM ANGELS Purchased the contract of C-R Sal Fasano from Salt Lake. [9/16] Hopefully, Fasano is up to finish the season behind the plate now that the Angels have clinched that last playoff spot, allowing Los Dos Molinas a chance to get a couple of days off before the playoffs. As somebody with a weak spot in my heart/head for catchers with that Mark Parent/Dave Duncan offensive profile, the guy who can throw a little and pound a home run every couple of weeks, regular readers know I've always coughed up plenty of kind words on behalf of Sal Fasano

ANAHEIM ANGELS Placed RHP Al Levine on the 15-day DL (shoulder tendinitis), retroactive to 6/27; recalled RHP John Lackey from Salt Lake. [6/28] I don't disagree with the idea of bringing up John Lackey to move into the rotation. Lackey is the organization's best upper-level prospect, and he's obviously ready to go.

When a hitter improves tremendously in his second year at a level, it's sometimes written off as a fluke, but I think Catalanotto's progress was legitimate. He was just 22 last season, and the breadth of his improvement is very impressive.
