Closer Report: Week 25

0

Matt Collins

Even with the regular season winding down, some bullpens remain up for grabs.

Welcome back to the Closer Report. The season is coming to a close and, I won’t lie to you, the news is getting pretty thin these days are teams are just finishing out their years. That being said, those of you who are either in the playoffs or the thick of the race in your roto races still have some little advantages you can kind in bullpens. Before we get to that, just a reminder that you can keep up with any movement with the Closer Grid. Now, on to the news.

Closer Report: Week 24

We are coming down to the wire, but there still are moves to be made to fortify your bullpen.

Welcome back to one of the final editions of the Closer Report of the year. Though the season is winding down, we are actually coming off one of our busier weeks of the second half. There were some high-profile changes in some contending bullpens, as well as some injury news to keep an eye on. Before we get there, just a reminder to check up on the Closer Grid for new pecking orders around the league. Now, let’s get to the news.

Blake Parker seems to be emerging in Anaheim. Nobody seems to be emerging in Arlington. Things are submurging in Kansas City.

We’re winding down to the end of the season, and it’s the most exciting time of the year for fantasy players. For those in head-to-head leagues, your playoffs are probably just about ready to start up, and those in roto leagues are fighting for every point you can get every day. Keeping up to date on everything, including bullpen happenings around the league, can go a long way. Obviously, there aren’t as many changes this time of year as there are earlier on, but there is still news to track. For that, keep an eye on the Closer Grid for any changes. Now, let’s get on to today’s news.

September puts the $ in $aves!

We’re almost into September, meaning we are in the most important time of the year for fantasy baseball. Every boost in any category could mean the difference between a championship and a middle-of-the-pack season, and the bullpen can be the area in which most roster movement can happen. With that in mind, just a reminder you can keep up with the latest changes on the Closer Grid. Now let’s get on to the week in news.

Big news for three playoff contenders and the White Sox remain... interesting in the ninth inning.

Welcome back to another edition of the Closer Report. There wasn’t a ton of news in Reliever Land over the past week, though there were a couple of big news points that did come down as well as a couple of tough situations to crack adding new wrinkles. Before we get to all of that, though, just a reminder that you can keep up with any changes on the Closer Grid. Now, let’s get on to the good stuff.

The White Sox and Angels: forever murky.

Welcome back to another Closer Report. Although we are into August, we know that doesn’t mean it’s the end of trade season. Generally speaking, closers aren’t the ones dealt at this time of year, but that didn’t hold true this past week as one was traded late Sunday night. Additionally, we lost clarity in some situations and gained some elsewhere, as well as getting some injury news. We’ll cover all that and more, but first a reminder that you can keep up with the changes around the league on the Closer Grid. Now, on to the news.

Go ahead and pick up Tyler Clippard—if you're into that

Welcome to the Trade Deadline Hangover Edition of the Closer Report. After all of the action we saw last week with plenty of movement around the league, things were pretty quiet in the time after. Teams are settling in with their new bullpen depth charts, and it’s likely going to be a little longer until we see some major changes. That being said, there are still some situations that could use a little clarity that we need to look at more closely this week. Before we get to that, just a reminder that you can keep up with the latest changes on the Closer Grid. Now, on to the good stuff.

Fantasy Freestyle: Closers of 2018

How about David Hernandez on Chicago's South Side, and Greg Holland with the North Siders?

We’ve flipped the calendar over to August, which means the MLB trade deadline has passed and player are, more or less, where they will be for the rest of the season. It also means that our fantasy trade deadlines are quickly approaching. This is obviously a busy time of year, particularly for those of us in longer-term leagues. If you’re the owner of a team that is not in contention this year, it’s time to start thinking of next year. With that in mind, I thought today I would attempt to predict the closer landscape for next year. Obviously, there are going to be events that I cannot predict, but it’s useful to know who could get saves in the following season and try now to get them on the cheap. So, with that in mind, here is a link to who I see closing for each team at the start of next season. Below is an explanation for teams that are seeing a change from who is closing right now.

Choose one: The White Sox bullpen, or the sweet embrace of death.

Welcome to the post-trade deadline Closer Report, which is always the busiest Closer Report of the year. We’re just going to jump right into it today because there was obviously a lot of movement, but before we do just a quick reminder that you can keep track of all the action with the Closer Grid. Now, on to the news.

Closer Report: Week 17

How long will Mr. Hand shoulder the saves in San Diego? Sean Doolittle, and not Ryan Madson, appears to be closing in Washington. Who will take over in Detroit if and when Justin Wilson gets moved?

Welcome back to another edition of the Closer Report. Specifically, welcome to the last edition of the Closer Report before the trade deadline next week. We had our second big closer-related deal of the summer this past week, and just yesterday our third took place. It’s expected that more will come soon. Coming up, we’ll talk about the implications of the deals that were already made and a couple of handcuffs you can pick up now for trades we expect to be made. But first, just a reminder that you can keep up with all of the changes on the Closer Grid. Now, on to the news!

Nationals trade should have brought clarity to Washington and Oakland, but it hasn't really done that yet.

Welcome to the Closer Report, and more importantly welcome to trade season. We had our first major reliever trade of the summer, and it involved the team we were all expecting it to include. That wasn’t the only news of the All-Star-shortened week, either, as a couple of committees are becoming slightly clearer. Before we move on to that, just a reminder you can keep up with all movement with the Closer Grid. Now, let’s get to the news.

Nationals finally address bullpen woes

Bud Norris stays strong at back end of Angels pen.

We have reached the official unofficial halfway point of the baseball season and a small break from action for fantasy baseball players. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your point of view) the world of closers never sleeps. Despite it being a fairly quiet week in Reliever Land, there still are a few situations that we are keeping close tabs on and can update heading into the break. Before we get there, just a reminder that you can keep up with the latest movement with the Closer Grid. Now, on to the news.

Bud Norris is still in control for the Angels
