7

Rob McQuown

Rob uses the recent direction of the BP Kings Scoresheet draft to discuss the value of outfielders and platoons.

Making one pick every day and a half is, how shall I say, not exactly rollicking fun.

Rob McQuown gives more keeper tips and dives into draft preparation notes.

With many leagues having keepers due today, I'll be around to offer any commentary on keepers. One last-minute tip is to not forget about defense. Be sure to check out these resources:

Future Shock: Young Birds Taking Wing

27

Kevin Goldstein

The crop of moundsmen on the way up will be among the stars of the next-gen Orioles.

While the Orioles' offense ranks 10th in the American League in runs scored, it's still loaded with young talent that's only going to get better from here. Beyond the quality of the competition, the real reason that Baltimore is languishing in the American League East is a pitching staff that is allowing nearly five-and-a-half runs per game. But will they get better in the same way that the offense is expected to? Looking at the current staff, the answer is clearly 'no,' but the magic prospect 8-ball sees one of the more talented collections of mound talent around down in their farm system. It's a group that could be the second part of a rebuilding process that brings respectability, if not much more, back to Charm City.

The prospects positioned to campaign for the top spots in-house and within the game at large.

Prospecting is all about the future, so let's look deep into the coming year and try to figure out who might be topping next year's prospect lists in their respective organizations, as well as who could be moving up, down, or even out, beginning today with the American League.

Baltimore's future may depend on the truism that good pitching will beat good hitting every time, but that may not be enough in the AL East.

Prospectus Q&A: Travis Snider

0

David Laurila

The Blue Jays prospect talks about his approach to hitting, and sizes up a few promising pitchers from his draft class.

The 14th overall pick in the 2006 draft, Travis Snider is not only the top prospect in the Blue Jays organization, he's one of the best hitting prospects in the game. Rated a five-star prospect by Kevin Goldstein, Snider led the Midwest League in several categories last year as a 19-year-old, including slugging and extra base hits. Built like a tank at 5'11" and 245 pounds, the left-handed-swinging outfielder is currently with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats after beginning the season in High-A.

Prospectus Today: The Mariners Mirage

0

Joe Sheehan

In trading the future for Erik Bedard, Seattle showed that it improperly evaluated the team's true major league talent level.

As I type this, baseball players are in uniform, stretching on fields in Florida and Arizona, shaking hands, laughing in the sunshine, catching up, and going through the time-worn rituals that mark the end of winter. Yes, folks…pitchers and catchers have reported. Winter may not be over, but you can see its end from here, and it's a beautiful thing. No matter what the weather is like outside your window, if you're a baseball fan, it's warm and sunny today.
