The Transaction Analysis you have been waiting for. Saunders. Izturis. Guzman. Cormier. Hernandez. Reyes. The names are all here, and only Christina can sort out the right from wrong, and the stupid from the just obtuse.

Fantasy Focus: Building a Fantasy Farm System

0

Jeff Erickson

Jeff wonders if fantasy owners should stock their farm system with young hitters or young pitchers.

Is the same true of a fantasy farm system? I've always believed so, and my experiences in keeper leagues have only reinforced that point of view. Take the RotoWire Staff League as an example. We now have three years under our belt, in an 18-team league where each team starts the year with a 10-man minor league roster. In those three years, I've drafted 19 minor leaguers (because some of those draftees were retained, I didn't have the full complement of 10 picks each season) and traded for three others:

Under The Knife: Hobbling Down the Stretch

The Cardinals' clinching gives them an opportunity to rest Albert Pujols over the next two weeks. Also, updates on Bobby Crosby, Mike Mussina and Sean Casey.

Luckily, Mazzone avoided being in this report after being hit on the head by an Andruw Jones BP homer. "That ball left Andruw's bat, traveled about 450 feet, and the next contact it made was with my freakin' head," said Mazzone, who never saw it coming. "That thing came straight out of the sky. Then I was face down in the bullpen." That's classic Mazzone.

The Cubs shuffle through pitching options, the Brewers have one of the most interesting rosters in the game, and the Dodgers fight through injuries as they try to stay in the race. This and much more in Transaction Analysis.

Lies, Damned Lies: Top 50 Prospects Report

0

Nate Silver

David Wright exceeded expectations, while James Loney was a disappointment. All the hitters in our Top 50 Prospects list are put under the microscope in today's Lies, Damned Lies.

For each player, I have provided the weighted mean EqA projection as determined by PECOTA, along with the actual major-league equivalent EqA as provided by Clay Davenport (whom you'll be happy to know is safe and sound in Maryland and not bruising a cornea or something trying to chase down Hurricane Ivan). Players are divided into groups according to where they placed relative to their PECOTA percentile forecast. For players who performed at multiple venues this season, we have combined their production at all levels.

Prospectus Roundtable: Top 50 Prospects, Part IV

0

Baseball Prospectus

Let's compare J.J. Hardy and Bobby Crosby: Player Age EqBA/EqOBP/EqSLG Hardy 20 .240/.316/.380 Crosby 23 .273/.356/.490 Adjusted for park and league context, Crosby's numbers were much, much better. How to balance that against the age differential? I think the question becomes: How likely is it that Hardy will post a line of .273/.356/.490 or equivalent by the time that he's 23? It's possible, certainly, and it's also possible that he'll post a line even better than that. But I don't think that it's *probable*. That's a lot of improvement to make. PECOTA would put the possibility at somewhere around 25%, I'd think, and I think that's enough to render Crosby the stronger prospect.
