What You Need to Know: Albers at it Again

1

Daniel Rathman

Twins starter Andrew Albers throws a shutout in his second start, and Adam Eaton helps the Diamondbacks keep pace with the Dodgers.

The Monday Takeaways
Last week, in his major-league debut, Andrew Albers blanked the Royals for 8 1/3 innings. Given his story and the fact that he was setting foot on a big-league field for the first time at the age of 27, that seemed like a big deal. Six days later, Albers one-upped himself.

The left-hander was unable to complete the shutout on August 6, failing to bump Andy Van Hekken down a line on the list of pitchers who have done it in their first tastes of The Show. Instead, he did in his first start at Target Field, two-hitting the Indians and outgunning Danny Salazar in a 3-0 Twins victory on Monday night.

Fantasy Starting Pitcher Planner: Week 20

17

Paul Sporer

A look ahead at the matchups for next week's two-start pitchers to help you set your fantasy rotation.

Welcome to the Weekly Pitching Planner. Each week I will cover the pitchers are who slated to make two starts and help you decide who you should start and who you should sit. Sometimes guys will be in the “consider” where they might have one good start, but a second tough one and then your league settings might determine whether or not you should go forward with him. The pitchers will be split by league then by categories:

Auto-Starts – These are your surefire fantasy aces. You paid a handsome sum for them either with an early draft pick or high dollar auction bid so you’re starting them anywhere, anytime. Guys can emerge onto or fall off of this list as the season evolves. There won’t be many – if any – notes associated with these groupings each week. We are starting them automatically so why do I need to expound on how awesome they are and will be in the coming week?

What You Need to Know: Meet Andrew Albers

2

Daniel Rathman

A sad season in Minnesota is brightened by the arrival of a new Twin with an excellent story.

The Tuesday Takeaway
The Baseball Prospectus staff came together in this week’s Lineup Card to decry the game’s worst clichés. Here’s a cliché that did not make that list: You only get one major-league debut.

Scores of players have spoken those words after their first forays onto a big-league diamond. Stephen Strasburg said them. Mark Prior said them. And countless others have, too. But few players will cherish their first taste of The Show more than Andrew Albers, who toed the rubber for the Twins at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night.
