I am also not excited of the chance of the Twins drafting Buxton. He reminds me too much of what they promised about Hicks, and he has been a disapointment. If it's a pitcher, it better be a power arm.
Damn, as a Twins fan, we have been wanting this philosophy for years!!!! Why can't we see this just once in Minnesota? So sick of the pitch to contact, cross your fingers, and hope for the best type of guys.
The Freak is clearly pitching "to not get get hurt" until he receives an extension. He knows that everyone always is worrying about his size and delivery, so he is more worried about staying healthy and getting paid than pitching to win. Ironically, this is worse than getting injured for him. His deciding nit to throw the slider is blatant insight to what his primary goal is right now. All of this messing with his head and his performance. Money f's you up.
Please, don't be afraid to use him as a starter! He at least deserves a chance. I actually like this approach with young pitchers though, and think it should be done more often. Limit their innings by starting the season in the pen to get a feel and confidence, then finish the tear as a starter. Better than shutting guys down early in my opinion.
Watch, Chapman will still be starting at the end of the season, while Feliz and Strasburg will be shut down or wearing down. Although, I am not saying Dusty is employing this plan, but he might luck into using it.
I could see hicks going to the pen if he fails bad this year, but I bet he how's just enough for them to give him another shot at OF, but so little that fans will give up on him.
Any updates on these guys? I have a draft on Sunday and I like all of these guys as experiments, but am curious as to who I should target and in what order.
