all I can say is this is one of the best pieces I have ever read on this site - and that's saying a lot, because I LOVE this website.
Great work Mr. Miller - really interesting way to think about this situation - and certainly in a way that we all can relate to.
This "kick the Astros while their down" thing seems so very tired to me. It's a completely valid thing to discuss when the organization is clueless - like in those final years of McLane's ownership and Ed Wade's GM term. However, they have a new owner in place, who's pledged to run the organization in the ways in which Baseball Prospectus would run an organization. And, he's followed that up in his hire of a strong GM, as well as other people in the front office. So, why are you still kicking them?
Yes, they're going to suck for a few years - sins of the past regime. But, the better story is to follow their construction. They're going to do it the right way. They are an organization that is a completely blank slate - let's follow the things they to do build. Making fun of the fact that Humberto Quintero is on their roster is just stupid and tired. Start discussing the more interesting story of their construction - it's just going to take time.
