MadBum sounds like the man has diarrhea
I miss good nicknames in baseball. At least I will always have Josh "CompliantPig" Willingham
Thanks for the article SaMi
Anything is better than the current way of creating a nickname of taking a couple of letters from each name. MadBum, A-Rod, hell the disease has taken over Hollywood. The news referred to Lindsey Lohan as LiLo, and I decided at that moment that I hate people
Putting aside whether or not he has been rushed, if Harper turns out to be as good as advertised, he will hit the free agent market at 25. What kind of contract is he looking at? A-Rod money? More years/money? It seems with the large tv deals becoming more common he could command a large sum of money on the market
Let me tell you about this one time I was playing poker out on the golf course, with my baby, when I found out half of my fantasy squash team had gotten injured.
I think one of the reasons this season is so alarming is because it is coming after his worst season as a pro, and people were already discussing his declining numbers last year. The start to this year is just adding fuel to that fire, even if it is a microscopic sample. Any 10 year contract for a 30 year old is going to look awful near the end, but it has to add some additional worry if he can't provide as much value at the beginning as the Angels thought he could.
As an A's fan, I don't have to worry about my team dealing out 10 year, 250 million dollar contracts any time soon/ever
Do they really need 5 guitarists?
Why do both teams have home jerseys on?
Why is Bob Uecker here?
I think this video needs a follow up video to explain these questions in more detail
I laughed when I saw that Strasburg pitch. Duda swings, realizes it looked foolish, and got back to the dugout as quickly as possible. Thanks for the laughs Sam
Cespedes absolutely crushed all 3 of his HRs, but it's funny that he admired the one of Friday. I don't think Vargas appreciated it, because it looked like he started yelling at Cespedes. Which is even funnier when you realize that Cespedes doesn't speak any English
I think if they did that, they could easily be contenders by 2013 if not 2012. But Andy Laroche is pretty much the same player...in that he can stand at 1B with a glove in hand...
Couldn't you have the same thing after Bagwell retired? The voters don't value walks, and god help you if you ever hit a home run during the 90s-00s, because if you did, you obviously cheated
I completely agree. The only way you can ever guarantee that any pitcher will remain 100% healthy is if you never pitch them. So I suppose if we want to "save" strasburg, might as well just wrap him up in bubble tape and put him in a bubble.
In others news, 98 and disappointed? I love it
Maybe it is just me, but when did the idea of Forst running the team become fact? Although I agree at some point Beane has to be held accountable, he is in a terrible situation, and the rumors surrounding the situation are just that; rumors.
It is tough to put together a 90+ win baseball team, and even tougher if the GM does not have the ability to bring in free agents. Why is this Beane's fault? I feel like it is just a backlash from Beane being touted for years as the best GM in the game, and people not liking that.
Maybe it's just me, but I read the scout's quote and am left wondering; do pitchers not throw in the 90s in the minors? It seems people just got over-hyped about a 21 year old hitting in a high-offense environment. I agree in the long term he will be ok
Although I think Wolff and Beane should be held accountable for their inability to put a competent offense on the field, Geren still had to go, even if it is not his fault. He had seemed to have lost the clubhouse, and fans were calling for his head everyday. It just became a distraction from the real problems this roster has.
I will miss Bob waddling out to argue though
If I remember correctly, it is when he does not see the exact time the batter crossed the plate, due to tv crews showing more important things (i.e. mascots doing the backflip). So the * denotes an approximation.
Honestly, trading Johnson is something that would not go over well within the fanbase, but if they could get some prospects for him, you have to do it. If ever there was a player who was a "flash in the pan", it is Johnson.
I understand fans not wanting to believe this (As an A's fan, Daric Barton will hit 30 homeruns next year. I CAN FEEL IT), but it is better to look at the situation from the vantage point a few years down the road.
He remains a tough trade, because a lot of people see him as a fluke. But I think this power is something that remains consistent. Not 50 hrs, consistent, but even a 350/500 line is pretty valuable, and that is a lot of regression from his current perch
