"Girardi has by and large failed to do this, running his pen in read-and-react fashion, changing his usage patterns based on what a pitcher did in his last outing, or his last batter."
Amen. This was a problem with one Grady Little back in the day with Boston as well.
I did not think that was what Reynolds was trying to say. I think he was trying to say, for example, that a stud hitter A who bats third may hit less if stud hitter B, who hit behind A in the 4 spot, left during the off-season. Thus, he was wondering how projected values would reflect that, even though A remains in the three spot.
I noticed HR hovered around the notion of lineup protection, and how it is reflected in fantasy player values. Sort of a litmus test for him, on whether to buy into the whole thing?
I am mildly surprised that JS didn\'t utilize bragging rights today, as he called out the differences in team defenses before the series. Beyond the Youkilis-Guerrero thing, it seemed to me that two critical plays were made on defense that amounted to having the same impact as Bay\'s homer, both in favor of the Red Sox.
As a Sox fan, and having seen the Sox FO take a pretty interesting approach with Manny, with no less than two legitimate attempts to deal him from the roster, I figured this was the time it finally HAD to happen.
That said, he was and is a terrific ballplayer, and I wish him the very best. Whose hat do you think he will end up wearing on his HOF plaque?
