Shelby Miller's drop reminds me of Phil Hughes drop off when he was the same age. Velocity went from the mid 90's to low 90's and Hughes never has been able to get that 1 or 2 ceiling scouts pegged on him early on.

Heyward hasn't been good since the playoffs against the Giants. They found the hole in his swing with the inside and pounded him in the whole series. Ever since, every team has seen that blueprint and he hasn't adjusted. Either he has to reposition himself in the batters box or change his swing to accommodate him or else he's going to end up a poormans Cliff Floyd and no Braves fan wants that.

I think your selling Angelo Gumbs short on his power potential. I saw him hit one out in a playoff game that went out of the park like a Rickie Weeks or Gary Sheffield Homerun...

What's your take on Luke Jackson, does he still have a #2 ceiling?

mwashuc06

I agree on Gumbs and I saw some Rickie Weeks in him when I saw him play. He hit the fastest HR out of the park of anyone I seen including Jesus Montero. Mason, he looked like he can get some more pop in his swing, as he has some loft to it. I've also heard some rumors out there that he is 6'2 175 now which in terms is a possible increase in his power ceiling.

I saw Pomeranz in his AA debut last year before he was traded against Harrisburg, he threw nowhere near as hard as your report had. Was it nerves or fatigue, we'll never know, but Pomeranz was only 88-90 and hit 92 a couple of times. He tied up Bryce into knots with his curveball, but his fastball was flat and Tyler Moore his a 400 foot homerun off him. I like him more of a 3 than a two unless he does get back to that 92-93 range consistently.

mwashuc06

I think Mason Hope is ranked too low, i've heard the curveball is a potential whipout pitch and the fastball is solid. Get him a changeup and who does that sound like, Clay Buchholtz.

Seems like Marisnick is answering his critics with the bat. If he keeps this up the rest of the year and hits over .300 in the MWL, will he be a top 50 prospect. Is his ceiling an AS player.

I saw Wolters play this past weekend, I don't think he can stay at SS, but he has a more impressive bat than you think. he hit a bomb to deep center that hit the top of a 25 foot wall for a double and would be a HR in most parks. Don't doubt the power, I can see 15 HR's a year there, plus he has a great eye at the plate. Don't underestimate this kid, he can be better than many above him.

McCutchen played with injuries for the middle part of the season, that's why his numbers didn't go up compared to last year.. You take out his July and August, he played at a star level and you have to like the 30/30 BB/K in the 2nd half. Year three is when McCutchen takes off. I don't like Alvarez that much, and is a lot like Carlos Pena...

By the way Trout is 18 all year, not 19. Trout hitting wise is almost like Heyward in the minors from last year minus the plus power. Trout has always reminded me of a Johnny Damon with more early power potential. I saw Havens play friday night and he showed some pop with a double down the line. I wouldn't give him a high ceiling though, maybe a .260 15-18 ceiling.

I'm sorry but your scouting report on Mejia is completely wrong. I've heard that Mejia's changeup is a plus pitch and has plus plus potential from an actual Major League Scout who told me this. He told me that the issue for Mejia was his breaking pitch. He raved about Mejia, said he was light years better than Holt. Mejia throws his changeup like Felix Hernandez(mid to high 80's) and I've watched him pitch twice this year. He said that Tawawza was the Redsox best prospect in Mid May when I spoke to this Scout and downgraded Lars Anderson significantly.

Thole doesn't try to hit for power. I've watched him close to 5 or 6 times this year and he chokes up on the bat and makes sure his hand isn't on the bottom of the bat handle which allows him to get great contact.

Actually was taking to a scout from the Blue Jays at that Binghamton-Portland game last night. I only stayed around to watch Mejia pitch poorly though he threw one plus curve but showed poor command of everything after the 2nd inning. Missed out on Anderson's homer because I had to leave the game early due to conflicts.

Saw Gibson Sunday night in Oneonta. This kid hit a gapper to right center and really bulked up from last year when I saw him in Oneonta at the end of the year. He hasn't lost any speed either. I don't know who is faster, Westmoreland or Gibson but it would be a good race. Westmoreland is pressing and he hates being a DH(talked to him before the game) and doesn't know when he'll be in the field.

I was tracking Tillman in his start last night, that's probably where you got my information from, someone copied my info off a site. Tillman actually started out shaky, only hitting 90-92 in the first two innings and allowing 3 hits. The rest of the game he was throwing two plus pitches, his 94-95 MPH heat and his upper 70's kneebuckling curve. He isn't MLB ready yet IMO despite your thinking Mr. Goldstein. Tillman needs work on his changeup which wasn't that great. Tillman was throwing his change, anywhere from 82-85 MPH and fooled one hitter with an 82 MPH change, but he didn't have that good of control with it.
