Miller is a headcase both on and off the field.
Shelby Miller's drop reminds me of Phil Hughes drop off when he was the same age. Velocity went from the mid 90's to low 90's and Hughes never has been able to get that 1 or 2 ceiling scouts pegged on him early on.
Heyward hasn't been good since the playoffs against the Giants. They found the hole in his swing with the inside and pounded him in the whole series. Ever since, every team has seen that blueprint and he hasn't adjusted. Either he has to reposition himself in the batters box or change his swing to accommodate him or else he's going to end up a poormans Cliff Floyd and no Braves fan wants that.
That was a curve backbrush, I was at the game. It was probably the best curve i've ever seen in person
nothing on Cuthbert?
What about Drew Vettleson, he's putting up good numbers in the MWL.
I think your selling Angelo Gumbs short on his power potential. I saw him hit one out in a playoff game that went out of the park like a Rickie Weeks or Gary Sheffield Homerun...
What's your take on Luke Jackson, does he still have a #2 ceiling?
I agree on Gumbs and I saw some Rickie Weeks in him when I saw him play. He hit the fastest HR out of the park of anyone I seen including Jesus Montero. Mason, he looked like he can get some more pop in his swing, as he has some loft to it. I've also heard some rumors out there that he is 6'2 175 now which in terms is a possible increase in his power ceiling.
Does Rosa have the highest ceiling in the system for position players? He looks like Matt Kemp, but he's miles away from that ceiling.
What's Aaron Shipman's ceiling?
I saw Pomeranz in his AA debut last year before he was traded against Harrisburg, he threw nowhere near as hard as your report had. Was it nerves or fatigue, we'll never know, but Pomeranz was only 88-90 and hit 92 a couple of times. He tied up Bryce into knots with his curveball, but his fastball was flat and Tyler Moore his a 400 foot homerun off him. I like him more of a 3 than a two unless he does get back to that 92-93 range consistently.
I think Mason Hope is ranked too low, i've heard the curveball is a potential whipout pitch and the fastball is solid. Get him a changeup and who does that sound like, Clay Buchholtz.
Is Walker's potential ceiling up there with the likes of Hernandez or Verlander, how is ceiling compared to Taillon and Miller?
A good HS example is Taijuan Walker. He was drafted at 17 and he is the same age as many of the top pitching prospect out of HS from the 2011 draft.
Is Marisnick's ceiling higher than Domonic Brown?
Seems like Marisnick is answering his critics with the bat. If he keeps this up the rest of the year and hits over .300 in the MWL, will he be a top 50 prospect. Is his ceiling an AS player.
Do you think Marisnick could break out like a Domonic Brown did last year with his power and what are his defensive skills rated by scouts you have talked to?
I saw Wolters play this past weekend, I don't think he can stay at SS, but he has a more impressive bat than you think. he hit a bomb to deep center that hit the top of a 25 foot wall for a double and would be a HR in most parks. Don't doubt the power, I can see 15 HR's a year there, plus he has a great eye at the plate. Don't underestimate this kid, he can be better than many above him.
What about Tony Wolters of the Indians who is projected to move to 2nd base.
What about Tyrell Jenkins, you had him ranked over Martinez?
Surprised you didn't put Luke Jackson down for the Rangers. The reports this spring have been amazing with him having mid 90's gas with movement, a plus curve, and the makings of a plus change up.
Do you have anything on Taylor Morton as he was an overslot signee?
What kind of ceiling is that and where?
Does Goodrum have a high ceiling?
I thought Lipka had 80 speed according to many people coming into the draft, what do you see for his power ceiling, and is there a small chance he can be the 2011 version of Trout but at SS?
I said that Strasburg was the next Prior when I saw him pitch live in Syracuse in his AAA debut...
Does Jenkins have more upside than Miller if everything comes together?
wow sounds like Segura could be the next Robbie Alomar..
Sounds like he's going to turn into the next Zito.
McCutchen played with injuries for the middle part of the season, that's why his numbers didn't go up compared to last year.. You take out his July and August, he played at a star level and you have to like the 30/30 BB/K in the 2nd half. Year three is when McCutchen takes off. I don't like Alvarez that much, and is a lot like Carlos Pena...
I wonder if he could learn how to throw the cutter like Carpenter does, then I think he could be a #1.
May has reminded me a lot of Tommy Hanson the last two years before Hanson had his massive breakout...
What about reports on Oscar Taveras for Johnson City...
His fastball is the reason for the awful numbers. He needs to learn where to place the fastball. I saw him pitch a few weeks ago and he was throwing gut high fastballs and was getting crushed. He had trouble throwing low in the zone...
Kalish reminds me of another redsox, Trot Nixon.
I think Chapman pitched against the Pawtucket Redsox.
The Jays are loaded with catchers right now. Arencibia in AAA, D'Arnaud in A+, Jimenez in A, and Perez in SS-A.
By the way Trout is 18 all year, not 19. Trout hitting wise is almost like Heyward in the minors from last year minus the plus power. Trout has always reminded me of a Johnny Damon with more early power potential. I saw Havens play friday night and he showed some pop with a double down the line. I wouldn't give him a high ceiling though, maybe a .260 15-18 ceiling.
Where is Mike Trout?
What is Trout's upside now your opinion in terms of his power?
You have anything on McEachren Kevin??
No Adam Wilk, saw this kid pitch in Oneonta and he was sitting at 89-91 on a legit gun from a player behind the plate.
Coghlan had a BABIP of .366 this year, give him a normal BABIP he's a .280 hitter and not even on the ballot.
I agree with that to a certain point, but guys who have good to great strikezone knowledge at a young age tend to do big things.
Derrik Gibson is going to become the next Brian Roberts, but with a better eye. I am very high on this kid and I saw him and Westmoreland this year and they could be the Redsox future 1 and 2 hitters. I also caught Alex Wilson's debut and he was sitting 89-91 and touched 93 on a legit gun.
I'm looking forward in seeing how high Westmoreland is and how much of a hit Anderson had.
How often are you going to be doing these future shock articles on teams and in what order?
What happend to L.J Hoes and Xavier Avery?
He didn't have a walk problem until he got his finger hurt trying to throw over 100 MPH again.
Gotta give the kid some time as he just turned 20 a few days ago. I got ripped by a scout when I last saw him pitch in AA and said to the scout he had no command. Scout countered me and told me that he was 19 years old.
Mejia pitching today and reports are that his changeup is sitting at 84-87 with plus movement.
Actually his curve flashes plus at times as well.
I'm sorry but your scouting report on Mejia is completely wrong. I've heard that Mejia's changeup is a plus pitch and has plus plus potential from an actual Major League Scout who told me this. He told me that the issue for Mejia was his breaking pitch. He raved about Mejia, said he was light years better than Holt. Mejia throws his changeup like Felix Hernandez(mid to high 80's) and I've watched him pitch twice this year. He said that Tawawza was the Redsox best prospect in Mid May when I spoke to this Scout and downgraded Lars Anderson significantly.
Snider isn't that good, 86-88 and I saw Fernando Martinez last summer hit a bomb off his changeup last summer in Binghamton.
Do you think Hellickson has a ceiling like a Mike Mussina?
Thole doesn't try to hit for power. I've watched him close to 5 or 6 times this year and he chokes up on the bat and makes sure his hand isn't on the bottom of the bat handle which allows him to get great contact.
Actually was taking to a scout from the Blue Jays at that Binghamton-Portland game last night. I only stayed around to watch Mejia pitch poorly though he threw one plus curve but showed poor command of everything after the 2nd inning. Missed out on Anderson's homer because I had to leave the game early due to conflicts.
Ellsbury will be dealt in the next two years to clear room for Kalish or Westmoreland.
Football might be MLB in a year. If there is no cap in 2010 in football, look for MLB to come back to the top in sports.
a better prospect than Bruce
Would you rate Jason Heyward as a prospect than when Jay Bruce was. Heyward has far better knowledge of the strikezone than Bruce ever did.
This guy is going to be a superstar IMO. He's faster than Ellsbury, has a great eye, and has great batspeed.
I think Yeicok Calderon will be the next Montero. You see his DSL numbers this year.
Think Norris has Matt Wieters upside? I have a feeling his PECOTA next year is going to be huge.
Where would you rank Jennry Mejia in your top 100?
What do you think of Alex Avila in AA.
What do you hear from Scouts on Jennry Mejia?
Saw Gibson Sunday night in Oneonta. This kid hit a gapper to right center and really bulked up from last year when I saw him in Oneonta at the end of the year. He hasn't lost any speed either. I don't know who is faster, Westmoreland or Gibson but it would be a good race. Westmoreland is pressing and he hates being a DH(talked to him before the game) and doesn't know when he'll be in the field.
I don't like Stanton's K-Rate and remember Heyward hasn't been fully healthy yet this year.
Know of any scouts or people checking out Matsuz vs. Mejia tonight? I'd go but a 6 AM work day awaits me and it's 1.5 hours away.
You talk to any scouts about Jenrry Mejia and what do you think of that scout in the NY Times that thinks he's their best prospect.
So much for Castro being an overdraft at 10 last year. Right now he's looking like a potential gold glover and possible All Star.
Mejia could be a better version of Jurrijens
better to have that than an elbow or shoulder.
Think Hanson will be in the Minors on May 31st. I want to track him just like I did Tillman in Syracuse.
I was behind homeplate but I didn't have a radar gun. The one guy behind home plate was David Hernandez and he was tracking pitchers last night. Wieters is having another horrible game tonight. I hope he isn't turning into the catching version of Alex Gordon.
Cool, I didn't even noticed anyone else tracking Tillman at the game. There probably wasn't more than 500 people at the game. What is wrong with Wieters this year, he was awful yesterday.
I was tracking Tillman in his start last night, that's probably where you got my information from, someone copied my info off a site. Tillman actually started out shaky, only hitting 90-92 in the first two innings and allowing 3 hits. The rest of the game he was throwing two plus pitches, his 94-95 MPH heat and his upper 70's kneebuckling curve. He isn't MLB ready yet IMO despite your thinking Mr. Goldstein. Tillman needs work on his changeup which wasn't that great. Tillman was throwing his change, anywhere from 82-85 MPH and fooled one hitter with an 82 MPH change, but he didn't have that good of control with it.
Jones is hitting .440 at home so far, granted it's early and I love his 7/6 BB/K ratio. Even better is that he's striking out once ever 8 AB's which is outstanding for a prospect. Oh and to top it off, Jones is hitting lefties at a .417 clip. Jones to me is going to be a star along with Rasmus.
How bad is Daryl Jones's injury?
Do you think Feliz's upside is that of a Pedro Martinez or a healthy right handed Francisco Liriano?
Are there going to be any big names that are going to play for SI in SS-A this year?
What happend to Brandon Hamilton, he still can throw in the high 90\'s and he dominanted after he got demoted.
The fact that I have talked to people down in Cooperstown about the steroid mess is interesting down there. They think Bonds might get in 20 years, they think Clemens has no shot to get in. Maddux, people think should get 100% of the vote. The fact that I might get a good job down in Cooperstown will be interesting because then I can ask the locals more about this issue. Either way i\'m only 35 mins away from the HOF and might in fact be down there in a week or so.
Do you have any opinions on Trey Haley, Zach Putnam, and House as they were 2008 draft picks?
That is a good point about that. What\'s your opinion on Derrik Gibson?
I think Boston is making a mistake of putting Casey Kelly on the mound. I seen this kid play in Oneonta last year and he looked like the next Derek Jeter at the plate and the young Jeter(not the old Jeter) in the field. He showed me in that one game he could hit the ball with power to all fields in the gaps.
I saw this kid in Oneonta last year for the best game of his career. He looked like the next Derek Jeter to me out there and was the leader for Lowell. I think he should have stayed at SS.
