Even in my Taiwanese League draft Many didn't go until the 14th round as most suspect he's over there just to get away from his wife, the formidable Mrs. Manny, for a month or so.
I was hoping to see Lucas Duda on that list because the Mets are obviously betting heavy on him stepping up big to prevent them from having one of the worst outfields in memory.
I'm glad you added in that "Okay, plus 15 million a year" at the end because that 15 million a year for 4-5 years is the problem for those teams at the bottom of the 1st round, not losing the pick.
The thing with Dickey is that he's a knuckleballer who throws like a regular pitcher. His arm speed is at fastball speed and he gets tired after 100 pitches and needs the 4 days between starts. I'm not sure he's going to be high end effective at 39-40 years old and I think the Mets thought that too. The Mets hired Alderson to make decisions and trades like this and I think Alderson had no intention of keeping Dickey at any price. Fortunately for him, Dickey and his agent came in at a contract request just high enough to cause Alderson faux consternation and alert other teams that a Cy Young pitcher was on the market. Toronto gave the Mets more than they probably thought they could get so kudo's to Alderson for extracting it.
Beckett is a well known even year slacker so its almost cheating to put him on this list. Maybe Bobby V can light a fire under his butt. He looks like he lost 15 pounds from last year so that's a good sign.
Peavy has the scariest high torque delivery I've ever seen except for Len Barker and Kevin Appier. No wonder he needed a unique operation that might be named after him. When you tear muscle from the bone you're not doing it right but at this point Peavy's bank account makes it all gravy.
Assuming a 95-100 million dollar payroll this year after all arbitration cases are settled almost 60% of it will be paid to only 3 players...Santana (24) Bay (16) Wright (15), none who have done very much to help the Mets lately. Alderson is in a very tough spot with zero wiggle room so I expect the Met's attendance to drop below 2 million this year unless Lucas Duda turns into Babe Ruth and Jonathan Neise turns into Sandy Koufax. Dark times for us Met fans.
