I second sgturner65's thoughts. Did you hear anything when talking to scout's about Descalso's breakout season?

Something else important to note. If you follow Cain and parallel the velocities to the situations he gets in you will notice that when runners reach base, or threaten to score, he often elevates his stuff. His average velocity may be around 90-92, but he will often bring out 94-96 when the situation merits it.

Hey Kevin, how come when you go to Wieters PECOTA page they have him pegged at a .250 EqA with 553 PA\'s in 09? Do you have updated PECOTA projections that BP is not sharing with all its paying customers?

Hey Kevin, I was wondering what you have heard on LHP Scott Barnes. A lot of scouts and insiders have pegged him as a huge sleeper, and he was completely lights out across 3 levels this past year. Thanks.

I believe Shawn\'s reasoning would be in that the small sample size of a series negates the relative value of a team containing those types of players because their production is fractionated in a an abbreviated time-frame. By the way, awesome article. I agree with the sentiment that some statistical crunching could have helped your case, but you hit the nail on the head with the quote: \"If it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it. And right now, baseball is anything but broke.\" Everyone is making money, everyone. In the end baseball is a business. Americans love the game and will continue to watch, but from a business perspective, each and every MLB organization is successfully producing a cash generator in the entertainment business. Let them be free.

Matsui for Winn? The Giants aren\'t a team in need of salary relief as they are one of the more wealthy teams in all of baseball. Not to mention exchanging Winn\'s 30 VORP for Matsui\'s 16, on top of the injury risk associated with Matsui, I doubt the Giants would be looking for a \"straight swap.\" This seems like something you would see on a Yankee fan site due to its lunacy.

Hey Kevin, can you elaborate on what you meant when evaluating Andrus and Borbon? Are you generalizing them, and saying their hype is overrated or are you specifically stating their individual talents are overrated? There is a large difference between the two, and easily misunderstood. Thanks.

mtofias explained what I immediately thought about when I read this article in regards to PECOTA. Based on your understanding of the system, it would be interesting to see what players you think PECOTA will project poorly, when in fact, they may defy the system.

Kevin- Interesting piece, but the one thought I had regarding this assessment is that these pitchers have already defied the odds associated with smaller players by making it to the Major Leagues. Because of this, it is hard to assess the relative success of these players because they are the enigma\'s that defied the stereotypes. Does that make sense?

Rasmus was seen by most scouts as a consensus Top 10 talent last year. How far back do you feel he has regressed if any at all?
