Now that the Braves have signed Troy Glaus as their "big bat" and confirmed that the true purpose of the Vazquez trade was not to free up payroll for a "big bat," but rather simply to dump salary, I just want to chime in that, Joe, I really appreciated your column. You basically nailed all my feelings as a demoralized Braves fan. From Time Warner to Liberty Media, corporate ownership has been horrible for this franchise.
I just hope that the time will soon come when Liberty Media can sell the Braves without jeopardizing their precious tax break.
Re: Kevin's quote:
"We can just add him to the very long list of guys who just never threw as hard as they did as amateurs. He sits around 92-93 mph and has done so for three years, when back in his Wichita State days you'd see plenty of mid-90s and up to 98."
How often do you see this? That seems very strange to me, that a guy would actually lose velocity from the time he's 18-22 to the time he's 23-26. Any idea what would cause that? Is it just an arm that has been fatigued from years of use?
I guess Yonder Alonso is in the same boat as Pedro Alvarez? He's starting the year in High-A Sarasota instead of AA Carolina. As someone who attends a fair share of Carolina Mudcats games, I'm hoping he moves up quickly.
You can count out the Braves. There\'s no way they would sign Manny. The fact that he\'s represented by Scott Boras just puts a nail in the coffin for the Atlanta front office.
Why would the Braves want to make a trade for Matt Holiday when he\'s represented by Scott Boras and will be in the last year of his contract? It would be like Mark Teixeira v. 2.0.
