2006

Laforest has power but lacks plate judgment--better than Hall, who lacks both. He came to catching late and isn`t great behind the dish, which apparently precluded him from spelling Hall once or twice a week and popping a homer or two. He had a wild winter: DFA`d in November, he was claimed on waivers by the Padres, and then non-tendered. French is Laforest`s first language, making him the ideal interlocutor for mound conferences with Pepe Le Pew.

2005

If for any reason Toby Hall can't catch, the only other credible option in the organization is LaForest, and even that is a little shaky after a forgettable year in Durham. LaForest's hitting profile is similar to the aforementioned Jonny Gomes, except with a little less of everything. As for his defense...he's done all right for a converted third baseman.
