BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2010 Acquired from the Yankees before spring training, Chase Wright spent a nondescript summer inducing ground balls in Nashville before becoming a minor league free agent. Even LOOGY-dom is starting to look out of his reach.
2009 Chase Wright got back on the horse after his famous four-homer Fenway debacle with a fine season split between Double- and Triple-A, but between shaky peripherals and bad memories he didn't get recalled.
2008 Few prospects have gone up and down the pop charts faster than Wright. Called up after just two Double-A starts, Wright won his first start against the Indians, and made history in his second. In the third inning of Wright's April 22 start at Fenway Park, he gave up consecutive home runs to Manny Ramirez, J.D. Drew, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek, becoming just the second AL hurler ever to surrender four straight taters. Naturally, he was sent down. Wright was shaky at Triple-A and continued to pitch poorly once demoted again back to Trenton (16 K and 18 BB in 39 2/3 IP). Control has always been Wright's downfall; he'll have to show massive improvement to reclaim the Yankees' affections.
2007 Chase Wright, FSL pitcher of the year, has a great curve and little else. He`s bullpen bound.

2008-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, any reason why the yankees are choosing to sit Al Aceves and not call up Chase Wright while the worst Aruban baseball player (Ponson) continues to pitch every five games for the yankees? what gives, either of those two should at least get an audition for the job, no?
(DanLong from WFC, NYC, NY)
Veteran. I kid, I kid. Seriously though, there's some sort of massive uprising for Chase Wright? The Yankees might feel like they've already seen that act, and they're not exactly eager for an encore. Guy can't miss bats. (Kevin Goldstein)
