2012 Foot and shoulder injuries have cost this Toronto native, a 2005 draft-and-follow, considerable time in the minors. He lost most of his 2010 season to a torn labrum. Thanks to the Twins' injuries, Tosoni spent the 2011 season shuttling between Triple-A and the majors—two levels he had never experienced before—making it difficult for him to settle in for very long. As awful as his major league numbers were, they were boosted considerably by a season-ending nine-game hitting streak. Tosoni's pure swing, gap power, and ability to play center field had put him on many prospect lists prior to his shoulder injury. His destiny may only be fourth outfielder, but he's got enough tools to fulfill it.
2011 Rene Tosoni injured his right shoulder last spring training and underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in June, but his absence didn't prevent the Twins from putting him on the 40-man roster in November.
2010 Tosoni made it to the Futures Game in 2009, and while everything about him screams, "future fourth outfielder," just achieving a big-league profile is an upgrade from previous years. His overall line masks his potential value as a platoon-oriented reserve, because beyond good fundamentals in the outfield, the Canadian hit northpaws at a .308/.389/.515 clip, and it's been a long time since the honorary Randy Bush roster spot had a worthwhile claimant.
2009 Before breaking his foot in May, Rene Tosoni showcased his on-base skills, but he’ll have to develop more power to stick in an outfield corner.

2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Would you say Rene Tosoni has risen much on the prospect charts this year? And best Husker Du record? (I like Zen Arcade.)
(collins from greenville nc)
I think he's risen pretty significantly. Not into elite range or anything, but definitely a prospect on some sort. I find Zen Arcade to be almost trying TOO hard to prove something. Flip Your Wig does it more. (Kevin Goldstein)
