BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2005 Stratton has spent his entire career swinging for the moon, often hitting monster homers when he makes contact, whiffing at astounding rates when he doesn't, and not collecting enough walks or other hits to offset his weakness. After joining the Reds in July following his release from the Giants, he widened his stance and began driving the ball up the middle, shocking scouts and fueling a .353 average—with his power well intact—over 34 games in Louisville. Call it a forced epiphany: when you're sitting home unemployed and your livelihood's at stake, there's often no other choice but to change. If he gets a shot with the big club this year he could instantly become the Reds' most dangerous pinch-hitter and a batting-practice treat.
