YearComment
2007 Speaking of bonus babies, Kyle Sleeth`s career is spoiled, as in ruined. He did stay on the mound a year removed from Tommy John surgery, but once he got out of the rookie league complex, the results were disastrous.
2006 The Tigers` 1st-round pick--second overall--in 2003, a lot has been expected of Sleeth. The Tigers have done a lot of fidgeting with his delivery to try and stop him from throwing across his body. In addition to this, or perhaps because of it, he`s been inconsistent as a pro, the Tigers have nevertheless pushed him aggressively into the high minors. His 2005 never got started; he had elbow soreness in the spring. The soreness did not go away with rest, and he finally had Tommy John surgery in July. That`s going to keep him out of action until sometime in mid-season, so he shouldn`t be counted on in any way until 2007.
2005 The subject of constant tinkering, because he came into the organization throwing cross-body with little command. The Tigers are trying to teach him to use his legs while preserving the giddy-up on his mid-90s fastball. Even if you give him something of a mulligan on 2004, he illustrates the problem with getting overly excited about pitchers with a high draft pedigree but no track record in professional ball.
