2013 Chris Seddon was described in these pages as organizational filler, but now he is off to fill an organization in the Korean Baseball Organization.
2011 The Mariners scraped the bottom of the bullpen barrel in low-leverage situations, and sometimes what came out was Chris Seddon. The soft-tossing converted starter’s stuff was hardly a revelation in relief.
2010 The Mariners signed Chris Seddon to a minor league contract for the 2009 season, but he failed to produce with just 89 K and 54 B and 131.2 innings at Tacoma.
2008 With their rotation in shambles late last year, the Marlins had to call on soft-tossing Chris Seddon for four September starts. The results were disastrous.
2007 Though added to the 40-man roster in 2004, Seddon has yet to make his big league debut, and with good reason, as he hasn`t improved as he`s advanced. His profile is fairly common, and it`s not one that PECOTA is particularly kind to. Generally, pitchers want to avoid Kirk Rueter comparisons, as having a career like Rueter`s with that profile is the exception, not the rule.
2006 The Rays` 5th-round pick of the 2001 draft, Seddon has made it to Triple-A at just 21, though he`s never shown consistency in the minors. He doesn`t throw hard, and he walks a few too many hitters than is justified by his stuff and his generous home run rate. Hammered by the grizzled vets at Triple-A, it remains to be seen if the organization`s new caretakers will feel the Old Regime`s urge to push Seddon despite his record.
2005 Seddon is a touted lefty. Another string bean—Chuck LaMar has a fetish for that body type in a pitcher—he comes from the fastball/slider family of pitchers. Seddon was on fire at Bakersfield, and even through his first few starts at Montgomery. As the summer went on, his ERA, walks, and home runs kept going up while his strikeouts went down. Unless and until he develops an off-speed pitch, that's going to happen a lot. Given his youth, he's got lots of time to make it happen.
