2010 Billy Sadler throws hard and has pretty good stuff, but still has no conception of how to throw strikes.
2009 Louisiana State product Billy Sadler can get his fastball up to 95 mph and compliments it with a vicious power curve. The problem is he canít put the curve where he wants it, so batters spit on it and feast on his relatively straight heater. Still, he managed to dominate in Triple-A last year despite walking nearly six men per nine innings. That earned him a pair of extended call-ups. The first, in May and June, didnít go particularly well, but the second, covering August and September, did. If he ever figures out how to get that curve over the plate, NL hitters are in trouble, but they should probably be more worried about global warming.
2008 The Giants have moved reliever Billy Sadler along slowly, but he seemed ready at the end of 2006. Command problems haunted him at Triple-A last year, and with so many arms at the upper levels, he'll have trouble breaking through.
2007 In his third year at Double-A, Sadler was given the closer`s role and started pitching just one inning at a time. His tailing fastball proved tougher than ever to hit, but the big step forward was due to his curveball becoming a plus pitch that is just as tough to hit, though even tougher for Sadler to control. He had silly hits-to-innings-pitched ratios and found himself enjoying September by the Bay. While he didn`t look good in the majors, he still made a name for himself in the fall by holding hitters in the notoriously hit-happy Arizona Fall League to a .184 average.
2006 Sadler, a college closer at LSU, is a flamethrower in every sense of the word: low to mid-90s velocity, and a tendency to self-immolate. He has proven relatively rubber-armed, although he was strangely bass-ackwards, holding left-handed hitters to a .144 clip while righties hit .260 against him. If he improves at getting his curve over for strikes, he could give the Giants a homegrown middleman sometime this summer.
