BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2008 There's being stuck in neutral, and then there's Pawelek, the former Scott Boras client and first-round draft pick who, according to our friends at Rotowire.com, "sustained a fractured radial head in his non-throwing right elbow after tripping over his Playstation." Suffered in early October, the injury seems worthy of the Glenallen Hill/Clint Barmes/Joel Zumaya Hall of Shame, but it was all too typical of Pawelek, who has failed to keep himself in shape and has regressed from a relatively polished prospect to a complete project. His odds of his putting together a meaningful career at this point are probably 50:1 against.
2007 The Cubs` first-round pick from 2005, Mark Pawelek apparently took it a little too easy in his first professional off-season and reported to camp out of shape. He had enough talent to put up good numbers in Boise without even trying, but his mechanics were off, his velocity was down; if he`d pitched like that the year before, he wouldn`t have been a first-round pick.
