2012-05-31 14:00:00 (link to chat)Are you still a Billy Beane fan? I'm not anymore; the guy can't make good trades that don't involve Dan Haren. If not, do you see any way he doesn't outlive all of us as GM-for-life?
(oira79 from San Francisco)
I wish he'd quit shilling for ownership's desires to move to San Jose (the crying about how the A's can't compete in Oakland isn't really becoming of a man of his stature), but I'm not going to be calling for his head any time soon. Taking shots at contention hasn't worked out when he's gone for it, but I'd dispute this "good trades" point -- three years of Seth Smith for Josh Outman and Guillermo Moscoso is a steal, for instance. (Jason Wojciechowski)
2012-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat as I'm ready to get amped up for the 2012 season. Rotation Q's for a deeper league: Do Tyson Ross and Kris Medlen have chances of carving out rolls with those rotations currently influx?
(Bringon2012 from Kansas)
Absolutely not to Medlen. Hes good, but hell need to prove hes recovered from TJ, and the Braves just have soooooo many options merely vying for the fifth spot (Minor, Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino, etc.), most of which are now younger and more talented than Medlen. Medlen's probably 10th on their SP depth chart. Not a bad problem to have for a team, but for a Medlen owner it is. Ross has a slightly higher a chance, but the As also brought in quite the haul of starter candidates this winter between Jarrod Parker, Brad Peacock, and Tom Milone, plus mainstays (while healthy) of Brett Anderson, Dallas Braden, Brandon McCarthy, and (to a lesser extent) Guillermo Moscoso. Then you have the usual Ross-esque fill-ins like Graham Godfrey and Josh Outman, so itll be tough. (Derek Carty)
2011-03-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like to round out the A's rotation out of Brandon McCarthy, Josh Outman, Tyson Ross, Bobby Cramer, and the forever-injured Rich Harden?
(Tom from Madison)
What, you mean in terms of finding a fifth ma to fight for the honor of being fifth starter? Ian Krol's a way's off yet. Pedro Figueroa's coming back from TJS and will start the season on the DL--that has to make him an honorary competitor, no? (Christina Kahrl)
2010-12-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see the A's doing with Josh Outman, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery? There doesn't seem to be a place in the bullpen or rotation.
(Dave from Chicago)
Gotta' wait and see what he can do when healthy and then make the decision. Perhaps he comes back and Gio gets hurt so you have another young starter to plug in. Or maybe he can be packaged elsewhere. You can never have enough good, young pitching, so it really wouldn't hurt to just keep him and figure out the role later. (Eric Seidman)
