2009-07-30 14:00:00	I'm assuming you will give us your reaction to the Pirates / Mariners trade in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... now! (mymrbig from New Orleans)	I like it for both sides. The Mariners stress defense and Jack Wilson is one of the best at his position and is likely amenable to signing a multi-year deal. Ian Snell could become a big winner with a change of scenery. I think Clement could really be a good hitter for the Pirates, especially in a new environment, Cedeno is a decent stop gap at shortstop (or maybe more) and three pitching prospects all have some degree of promise. 2009-04-13 14:00:00	Cheerio, I probably have the distinction of being the only Pittsburgh Pirates fan in the UK (began following baseball in 1990.) I thought we'd have to wait until the arrivals of Alvarez and McCutchen to have any hope, but the pitching's been great this year aside from one bad Ian Snell start where he was victimized by Albert Pujols, and the Bucs are already leading their home opener 4-0. Have Maholm and Duke turned the corner? I could see a (barely) winning season with some solid pitching. (Horace Steenblatter from London, England, UK)	Wow, a Bucs fan in the UK? I suppose I can add it to my now-I've-seen-everything list. Maholm had a pretty decent 2008 season camouflaged by a low win total (9). If I'm a Pirates fan I'd be happy with a repeat of that. The reports regarding Duke out of spring training said he had tweaked his delivery based upon reviewing video of his rookie season. I'd be optimistic for some improvement there. But with the erratic Snell, as well as Ohlendorf and Karstens at the back of the rotation, i'm afraid .500 is a pipe dream at the moment. (Jay Jaffe)
2009-04-20 13:00:00	Any thoughts on the post-Littlefield era in Pittsburgh? While I'm encouraged by the lack of bone-headed moves, there hasn't been much tangible progress yet either. Or am I missing things? (rick from co)	You're not going to see progress in the short term. The talent base isn't there. Andy LaRoche is the guy to watch this year, and Ian Snell as well; are they part of the 2011 team, the one that might get to .500, or not. The championship core is Alvarez, McCutchen, Tabata and the next two #1 picks. Maybe Doumit. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-02-11 14:00:00	Two pitchers that many had pegged for positive growth (if not breakouts) last season, were Ian Snell and Rich Hill. Do you see bounce-backs for either of them in 2009, or is mediocrity all that can be hoped for? (Joe from Brooklyn)	I think the change of scenery will help Hill. Snell is a hard guy to figure, talented but flighty. He could literally win 18 games this season or wind up in Indianapolis. (John Perrotto)

BTW, speaking of Ramirez, will the Ramirez and Lofton for Bobby Hill, Jose K and Matt Bruback trade go down as the single worst trade in Pirates history. (cchatham from Pittsburgh)	Thanks. Cchatham is referring to a guest host spot I had on ESPN 1250 in Pittsburgh last week where I had a chance to make a fool of myself for four hours. No word yet on Snell's elbow, though it would be a devestating blow to the Pirates if the injury is serious despite his troubles this season. The have no pitching depth in the minors. As far as the Ramirez trade, that was bad but that is one deal where I give Dave Littlefield at least a bit of a pass because he was under orders to move a big salary immediately. (John Perrotto)
2008-02-28 14:00:00	The Mets need a good 5th starter. How about El Duque, Mike Pelfrey, Ruben Gotay, Marlon Anderson and Aaron Heilman for Ian Snell?
