2013 Ray Olmedo can cover several positions and is probably still good enough at shortstop that he's worth starting at Triple-A.
2008 Ray Olmedo neither hits nor fields as well as John McDonald, making him a marginal utility infielder, and useless in an organization with eight guys better than him
2007 A superb defender in an organization that seems to prefer old-timers like Juan Castro in that sort of job, Olmedo`s really in a bad spot. He wouldn`t be the worst starting shortstop in baseball, but he also doesn`t have a lot of potential to blossom into a significantly better hitter. With Alex Gonzalez locked up for three years and Juan Castro for two, Olmedo`s only trade bait now.
2005 Major elbow injuries aren't just for pitchers anymoreóbad news for Olmedo, great news for Drs. Andrews, Yocum, Jobe et. al. A mid-season elbow strain presaged a complete tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in the Venezuelan Winter League, and Olmedo got TJ'd in November. With a far shorter recovery time than that seen for pitchers, he could be back just after Opening Day. After making decent strides at the plate in Louisville, Olmedo could be a useful caddy for Felipe Lopez and defensive replacement for D'Angelo Jimenez.

2008-08-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)It's not like I have work or anything... a few more Tommy Johnnies from Baseball Reference's Wiki: Roberto Alomar, Jay Buhner, Jose Guillen, JR House, Todd Hundley, Trey Lunsford, Carlos Martinez, Ray Olmedo, Luke Scott, Taylor Teagarden, Tony Womack. Are catchers are more susceptible to UCL injuries?
(Gump from nyc)
No, though you'd think they would be. It seems like it's 2B for some reason. (Will Carroll)
