2011-01-18 13:00:00Thoughts on Miguel Montero? He had a huge 2009 second half: 254 PA, .316/.366/.534 (on a .358 BABIP) and 11 Bombs. I thought he could be roughly equal to Brian McCann in 2010 but had the knee injury in the first week. What do you think happens to him in 2011?
(Tom from New York)
I like Montero, but not more than McCann or even as much. I think he'll be a pretty good pickup, but some people may overrate him, which makes him kind of dangerous to chase. (Marc Normandin)
2010-06-10 13:00:00What can we expect out of Miguel Montero when he gets back?
(Phyllis from Irvine, CA)
The same thing you should have expected out of him at the beginning of the year. Dude's one of the better hitting catchers out there, and very undervalued. (Marc Normandin)
2010-05-11 16:30:00So far it has been a rough fantasy season for me. I have had 5 players hit the DL already (Miguel Montero, Aaron Hill, Yunel Escobar, Carlos Beltran and Brad Hawpe). So I am playing with a lot of replacement level players. My main question is, should I keep Gordon Beckham and Jason Kubel? They have been in tremendous slumps. and if so, who should I replace them with? Is Ryan Ludwick a better option in the outfield? Please help.
(csatte1 from Baltimore, MD)
Gordon Beckham really seems like a young hitter who is adjusting. His BABIP is low because if too many grounders and pop-ups, but he should work that out. Jason Kubel just isn't hitting the ball as hard as last year. Fewer balls hit to the outfield, fewer HR. He's probably working out kinks in his swing, but I can't imagine he's as valuable as Beckham, even though I don't do fantasy baseball so I don't really know league scarcity that well. Ryan Ludwick seems he's just a little less patient hitter with maybe a little more power. Not sure how that plays in here. I guess Ludwick is better especially with Kubel needing to work out some kinks. (Matt Swartz)
2010-03-04 13:00:00do you lose any sleep deciding between nathan, rivera or papelbon? also, I think you're too harsh on Rasmus and Montero in your rankings.
(stewbies from rochester)
Miguel Montero? I said he was *at least* as good as his projection, and if he weren't splitting time with Snyder he'd be worth more. I do love Montero.

Rasmus isn't bad, there's just a lot more to choose from, and he hasn't shown me enough to get excited yet. I'm more interested in his 2011 than his 2010. (Marc Normandin)
2010-02-05 13:00:00Miguel Montero. Looks pretty tasty to me. Your thoughts?
(firejerrymanuel from ny)
Thanks for stopping in. I'm a big fan of Montero, especially if he's picking up the playing time he deserves. I probably ranked him too high last season considering he was in a time share, but then he ended up starting and inadvertently made me look like I knew what I was talking about. Thanks, Miggy! (Marc Normandin)
2009-12-09 13:00:00How does Miguel Montero stack up against other catchers? I know there are problems with half-season splits, but he went nuts this year in the second half.
(Rob from Alaska)
I'm a huge fan, have been for a while. (And as I write that, I feel like I answered this question in my previous chat.) In any case, I see him as a .290/.370/.480 catcher with average defense, a championship-caliber player. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-11-19 13:00:00Who hangs up first on a Justin Upton for Bumgarner-and-Posey swap?
(Martin from Tucson)
The Diamondbacks, largely because Miguel Montero is pretty good. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-11-19 13:00:00What are your thoughts on Miguel Montero for 2010? Will he build on his strong 2nd half?
(John from Trenton, NJ)
I think I lost this answer...like him a lot, championship-caliber bat, .290/.365/.470, average defense, no speed. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-10-09 13:30:00What kind of a prospect was Miguel Montero? Was his breakout this year for real?
(Rob from Alaska)
I always had him pretty darn high -- so yes, I think it is. (Kevin Goldstein)
