2013 Taken one pick ahead of Jason Heyward in the 2007 draft, Beau Mills stalled out in the Indians organization and has spent parts of the last four seasons in Double-A.
2012 Former first-rounder, former top prospect, and current son of Houston manager Brad Mills, Beau Mills had fallen from grace before a 2011 resurgence. He'll need to prove himself more at Triple-A, but perhaps he won't have to settle for a coaching job like his old man—at least not right away.
2011 Former first-round pick Beau Mills put up Babe Ruth-ian numbers at Lewis and Clark College, but he can't find the Sacagawea he needs to guide him to the big leagues and interpret breaking balls.
2010 After a Carolina League MVP season in 2008 that established him as the best first-base prospect in the Indians' system, Mills had a greatly disappointing '09. Even though he made the Eastern League All-Star team, it was somewhat perfunctory, and some of the shine on his prospect status has worn off. Given the plethora of solid-hitting, poor-defense talent in the Indians system (LaPorta, Weglarz, Hodges), there isn't a clear path to the majors for Mills unless he recaptures the power stroke—which was never much more than merely above-average in the first place.
2009 Former first-round pick "General" Mills showed why he's the best offensive prospect in the system by scoffing at the pitching-heavy reputation of the Carolina League in his first full pro season, tying for the circuit lead in homers while finishing second in RBI and third in slugging. He's not a great athlete and is rough around the bag at first base—rough enough that he might not wear a glove in the majors—but that won't matter much when he's knocking 30-plus homers out of "The Prog" in a few years' time.
2008 Some believed that Mills was the most dangerous hitter in the 2007 draft. While at perennial NAIA powerhouse Lewis-Clark State, Mills put up numbers normally associated with video games, batting .458/.556/1.033 with 38 home runs, 100 runs scored and 123 RBI-in just 62 games. He's a bit of an all-or-nothing slugger and isn't very good at first base defensively, but some within the organization see Hafner-esque potential here.

2008-09-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)Where do you have Beau Mills in the Indians system? I see Laporta, Santana, Mills. Does this season vastly improve his stock in your eyes?
(Kris from Akron)
I haven't started ranking yet, especially a team like Cleveland, as I'm starting in the National League. So I'm not going to commit to a ranking, but I will say that for Mills, I don't think he's either up or down, I see his season numbers, as well as the scouting reports, as more of a holding serve. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-08-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)Since David Huff questions aren't working............ Beau Mills? Solid player? All-Star? What are your thoughts?
(bigrick0016 from Cleveland)
A real quick note on "questions not working" -- they're working, but keep in mind that there are literally hundreds of them in the queue here, I just can't get to them all. And I think I did answer a Huff question! Beau Mills? In Friday's scouting notebook! (Kevin Goldstein)
