2008 The Reds were shocked-shocked!-to learn that Livingston, a pitcher placed on waivers by the Mariners, had a labrum that was in less-than-mint condition. It remains to be seen what will be left of his career after a pit stop on Tim Kremchek's operating table; although labrum surgery isn't the death sentence it once was, Livingston's star was on the decline even before the injury.
2007 Once considered a top prospect, Livingston`s a lefty soft-tosser with a low (and declining) strikeout rate. The Mariners` designated him for assignment in December. After some trade shenanigans between the Devil Rays and Phillies resulted in Tampa`s waiver claim on him being nullified by the league, Livingston wound up in Cincinnati. He`ll get his chances with the Reds, but he`s not a great fit for the ballpark.
2006 Who to believe, the stats or the scouts? The stats say Livingston has put up great K/BB rates throughout his minor league career, and looks on track to hit the majors soon. The scouts say he`s a soft-tossing lefty who may struggle at the highest level. The numbers hint at that possibility too, as Livingston`s peripherals eroded a bit at Tacoma, culminating in a playoff game debacle in which he yielded five homers. Lefty control pitchers are said to have a better chance at success than righties of the same stripe, and the Mariners have one of the archetypes in Jamie Moyer. There are enough candidates for the back of the rotation that they can take a patient approach with Livingston.
2005 King Felix and Bobby Livingston formed a 1-2 combo for the Inland Empire 66ers for much of last season. That's unfair. Livingston's got great command of his pitches, and as he's getting experience, the nastiness of his pitches is increasing. At this rate, when he reaches the Show, his pitches will do loop-de-loops on the way to the plate. Livingston's behind only Hernandez in the system's pitcher hierarchy.
