2012-05-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Name a handful of current bench players you see carving out a role and producing fantasy worthy numbers?
(Ridin'thepine from Splintersville)
Obviously things would have to break right for each of these guys, but here goes: Jeff Keppinger, Kosuke Fukudome, Brent Lillibridge, Tyler Flowers, Johnny Giavotella, Dave Ross, Juan Francisco, Tyler Moore, Adrian Cardenas, Chris Snyder, Allen Craig, Wilin Rosario, Nate Schierholtz (Derek Carty)
2010-03-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Re: Dunn ----> White Sox. Speaking of which, any idea why Tyler Flowers is getting so few spring ABs? I think he has all of 9 or 10. Are the Sox just trying to figure out what they have in Brent Lillibridge and there aren't enough to go around, or what?
(ChuckR from Addison, IL)
Dunn would be a lovely addition on the South Side, absolutely. The problem is whether the Sox have enough to make it worthwhile; trading Becks ought to be a non-starter, and they'll need to keep Flowers for the inevitable post-AJP future. I think what's happened with Flowers is that he just really has no chance of making the club, and because they're serious about his future behind the plate, they don't want him DHing at the outset and being a third catcher of sorts when he could be solidifying last year's gains behind the plate in the early months as an everyday Knight down in Charlotte. The Lillibridge menace doesn't seem too likely; with Vizquel, Nix, Jones, Kotsay, and Castro all likely to make the team, he's up against the 12th pitcher candidates, and that's probably not a fight he can win. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-05-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of the Scotty Pods experiment for the White Sox? Is there anything left in he tank speed wise?
(Ozzie from Chicago)
He's a marginal fifth outfielder.

The White Sox started Brent Lillibridge in CF and Alexei Ramirez at SS last night. Just flipping them would be a nice start. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-07-30 12:30:00 (link to chat)What are the odd that the Braves acquire Jason Bay from Pittsburgh? Do you know any of the names being tossed around that would go back to the Buccos in a deal like this?
(Jorge from Atlanta)
The Braves have been offering Brent Lillibridge and Brandon Jones but the Pirates want a third high-end propsect. (John Perrotto)
2008-02-07 14:00:00 (link to chat)If the Bedard trade ever goes through, will Adam Jones play SS or OF for the Orioles? If OF, would the Orioles deal for a real prospect SS who's currently blocked, like the Braves' Lillibridge?
(Chief Nocahoma from Etowah, GA)
Given that the Orioles have neither a center fielder nor a shortstop, I suspect they'll leave Jones in the outfield.
Brent Lillibridge will be unblocked by July, I think. It's a good idea to go get him, but I fail to see a single Oriole (Bedard excepted, of course) the Braves would trade for. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-01-29 16:00:00 (link to chat)From an Orioles point of view, what's not to like about the rumored trade with Seattle? Baltimore will not compete in 2008 nor 2009 and the team probably can't sign Erik Bedard to an extension anyway. Kevin Goldstein is very high on Adam Jones and Chris Tillman. Tony Butler and Kam Mickolio could become very helpful major leaguers. I do not get the George Sherrill-part of the trade, but maybe the O's are going to trade him right away (to the Braves for Brent Lillibridge?). All in all, it looks like a very good deal for the Orioles.
(bo9anderson from Amsterdam, the Netherlands)
Don't misunderstand me - it's a good deal for Baltimore, absolutely. I just don't know what you do with Sherrill. If you're going to rebuild, rebuild. The problem for Baltimore is that rebuilding requires a full commitment, and this team can't commit to *anything* in full so long as Peter Angelos is running the show. (Rany Jazayerli)
2008-01-22 19:00:00 (link to chat)The Adam LaRoche for Mike Gonzalez trade seems to have worked out best for the Pirates, until you take into account the 3rd man in the deal (Brent Lillibridge). Does that make the trade "Advantage Braves", and another bone-headed move by Dave Littlefield?
(Frank from Las Vegas)
I've probably been overstating Lillibridge's case the past couple of years, but I think he should be a major league starter like yesterday. So, yes, I agree with you, although I'm not quite sure I would go so far as to classify this one as "boneheaded." (Jim Baker)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)C-K! Can I call you C-K? Enjoyed the latest TA, but the Kotsay move still confuses me. Do the Braves think they can contend in 2008 after downgrading from Andruw to Kotsay and Renteria to Yunel? Those both seem like pretty big gambles if you're banking on the playoffs to persuade Big Tex to stick around after his walk year. Especially when $$$ usually work just as well. Why not roll Brent Lillibridge out there in CF and see if it works?
(Tim from Portland, OR)
I think the expectation here is that the Mets and Phillies both aren't going to be 100-win teams, so the Braves have a shot on the perceived strength of their rotation, and the virtues of plugging in Tex at first base for a full season. Some of that's reasonable, even if the Glavine they've signed isn't the Glavine they last had. The thing about Lillibridge is that I still think he's their best long-term option at short, and with Jordan Schafer their center fielder of the very near future, they wanted a vet with some upside potential. While I think Kotsay's not really a great bet, there is at least some potential that he might have another 2005 season in him.

Of course you can call me CK; Sheehan's only been doing it for 12 years or so. (Christina Kahrl)
