BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2009 Released by the Mariners, Charlton Jimerson failed to catch on elsewhere. The self-made product of a drug-tainted, single-parent household defeated far longer odds to reach Triple-A, but overcoming the poor plate judgment that resulted in Rolando Roomes being his top PECOTA comp may be beyond even his powers of determination.
2008 Analytically, there's not much to like about Jimerson, a player who posted a merely good season as a 27-year-old in Double-A while striking out in about a third of his plate appearances, more than four times as often as he walked. That said, Jimerson's reportedly a great guy who's overcome a lot of adversity in his life, so we'd still like to see him grab a fifth-outfielder slot and keep it long enough to qualify for a major league pension. Some players are just worth rooting for.
2007 An impoverished man`s Wily Mo Pe?a, Jimerson`s first major league hit was a towering home run that broke up Cole Hamel`s attempt at a perfect game. Many are convinced that will be his sole career highlight. He`s strong, fast, powerful, and by all accounts a great guy, but the one thing he isn`t is a prospect.
2005 The NL Central's version of Reggie Abercrombie, Jimerson is a tools goof with a career .240 batting average and a nearly 5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio as a pro. It's tempting to cut that with a mention of how fast and strong he is, and to reference how players of this type do sometimes become major leaguers. Jimerson, though, is 26 and has yet to master Double-A. He's not a prospect, just another in a long line of ath-a-letes who couldn't play the game.
