2015-10-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you tell us about Jeremy Jeffress and how he got to be so good this season?
(BREWCREW from Milwaukee)
Jeremy has come a long way and I am so proud of him for getting to this point in his career. He' a unique talent and an even better person. I think this year was the culmination of a lot of things not limited to being with the right organization for the player. He finally found a home and sometimes thats all it takes. You really can go home again. (Joshua Kusnick)
2013-01-14 14:00:00 (link to chat)I have seen Law mention adding prospects to the 40-man to get around the pot suspension, but would this be allowed and how would it work? I mean, I know the Brewers added Jeremy Jeffress to their 40-man early, but it wasn't to get around a suspension, it was to avoid another one. I can't imagine Singleton would be allowed to play at the major league level, which is what Law seems to be saying would happen.
(Chris from KC)
That is what he was saying, I believe, and I wondered the same thing. I haven't had a chance to look up the rule myself. I'll do that. (Ben Lindbergh)
2013-01-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)Jon Singleton: Is this a first time that a player has been suspended for pot? Is is this a reasonable action on the Organized Baseball's?
(Hoot Stromboli from city by a Great Lake)
Not the first time it's happened. Jeremy Jeffress was suspended not once but twice, Tim Beckham was suspended once, and there may be others. I think it's an excessive penalty, particularly given the double standards. For one, players on the 40-man roster aren't tested for drugs of abuse. For another, smoking pot is far less harmful to others than drunk driving, which carries no sanction within major or minor league baseball. (Jay Jaffe on the Hall of Fame)
2010-11-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Would you agree with this small change in wording, Senator? "Any pitcher who has value --and has not yet proven himself incapable of effective and healthy with a starter's workload-- is better utilized in a starting rotation." Feliz and Cashner would then be rotation candidates, but Jeremy Jeffress or Mark Rogers might not be.
(Bernie from Brewtown)
Yes, I'm onboard with that, but since yours is sort of grammatically incorrect, let's once and for all change it to "Any pitcher who has value -- and has not yet proven himself incapable of remaining healthy or effective with a starter's workload -- is better utilized in a starting rotation." We can call this Seidman's Law of Swingmen. (Eric Seidman)
2010-03-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Jeremy Jeffress is a starter or reliever when he comes back?
(Eric from Linceburg)
Personally? I'd relieve him. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-08-13 14:00:00 (link to chat) What are your feelings on Jeremy Jeffress? Specifically: He's not allowing many homers or hits at all, striking out a ton of guys, and generally getting groundballs. Do you look past the walks in light of all that, or is the wildness too discouraging? [Pitching wildness, I mean...not the puff puff pass stuff.]
(Olinkapo from Brevard County)
Obviously, the walks are a concern, but it's not like he has a case of the yips or anything. In the low minors, on a statstical level, I focus primarily on ip, h, k; and I'm still very high on Jeffress because those numbers are good and he has monster stuff. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-07-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)In a radio interview yesterday Doug Melvin said the Brewers had some prospects that were untouchable. If LaPorta wasn't, who is?
(denny187 from WI)
Mat Gamel, Alcides Escorbar and Jeremy Jeffress from what I can tell. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-01-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Please rank these flamethrowers: Jordan Walden, Fautino De Los Santos, Jarrod Parker and Jeremy Jeffress. Which one is likliest to reach their ceiling? The least likely?
(Henry from Arcadia, CA)
I like Parker the best out of that bunch, because he has such natural arm action and quite a good curveball. I'm going with him first. I think Fautino's season last year puts him an inch ahead of Walden, who has a better arm naturally. Jeffress comes in last, and I think he's least likely for now because of whatever has come up here in 2007. (Bryan Smith)

2010-04-05 09:30:00Season Opener RoundtableDan (Chicago): Christina, I am not an A's fan.... but green IS for every day. Speaking of which, how does MLB justify the discrepancies between testing for the major vs. the minor leagues? Is my man Jeremy Jeffress ever going to make it up where he can't be suspended?

He'd still be at risk for getting caught doing some things in the majors. What, you think this is the NBA or something? (Christina Kahrl)
