2009-08-13 13:00:00Much has been made about the choices of contracts given to Blue Jays players since J.P. Ricciardi has become GM, yet he still has his job. Considering the Blue Jays change in ownership, what would stop the new owner from releasing him from his duties and allowing the Blue Jays to start over?
(Tim from Tampa)
Perhaps JP represents himself well on the inside and has presented some exculpatory evidence, like blaming the previous ownership for some of those crazy contract calls. The other thing that's sort of an out is saying that he's been reacting to the failures of the farm system to present very much on offense until quite recently - Lind, Hill (who didn't look like this kind of hitter as a prospect), and perhaps Snider -- who should be up right now. It's an embarrassment having Joe Inglett in right field. I guess overall you should never underestimate inertia as a motivating (is that any oxymoronic usage there?) factor in large organizations. (Steven Goldman)
2008-06-20 13:30:00Hey Joe, how long do you think the Blue Jays will let Adam Lind crush the ball in AAA before giving him a real shot in the bigs? I know he has struggled when they bring him up and play him once a week, but will he ever get a fair shot? Is there anybody who has been mishandled more than Mr. Lind?
(Steve from Cambridge)
Plenty of guys have been handled worse than Lind has. Willie Greene mocks his pain, for one. I just don't get how a team can choose Shannon Stewart, who's just a terrible baseball player now, over Lind. Or drag in Brad Wilkerson and Kevin Mench. Or play Joe Inglett. It just doesn't make sense. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-04-23 13:00:00I could tolerate the Jays' release of Thomas if Snider was knocking the door down in the minors but is there any justifaction for doing it to get Joe Inglett and Shannon Stewart at bats?
(Bill from Toronto)
Maybe. On paper, it was a stupid thing to do. At the same time, of all the information regarding the release and what happened, you and I probably know 20% of it. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-04-23 13:00:00If I kidnapped Adam Lind and brought him down to Orlando the Jays would have to play him over Joe Inglett right?
(Taylor from Toronto)
You supply the van, and I'll drive. (Kevin Goldstein)
