BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2011 The 2010 season represented Gartrell's latest success in the face of non-existent expectations for the big former 31st-rounder. He's not an especially mobile corner outfielder, and with 110 strikeouts versus 19 walks in 410 PAs against right-handers last year, he's not going to blossom into a major-league regular. It's safe to say he's just an organizational player coming off a good season, but give the guy props for getting this far.
2010 Outfielder Stefan Gartell is a huge man with plenty of raw power; that's about the sum of his skills, but he's on the 40-man and trying to become the first-ever 945th overall selection in a draft to make the majors.
2009 Upon reaching Double-A, Maurice Gartrell lost 45 points off his average with corresponding dips in his OBP and slugging, and he didnít fare much better in the Arizona Fall League before a separated shoulder ended his participation. He has a broad range of skills, but doesn't excel in any one area and canít play center, which lowers his ceiling considerably.
2008 The outfielder formerly known as Stefan, Maurice Gartrell did nicely last year in his first full professional season, with a nice spread of production and athleticism.
