2007 A repeat year in High Desert seemed the perfect recipe for offensive hijinks, instead Donachie mustered a feeble 6 homers in 210 at-bats and a .414 slugging average, and then struggled mightily after a late promotion to Double-A. Donachie is an excellent defensive catcher, consistently nailing over 40 percent of attempted basestealers and controlling the strike zone well. None of that matters if he doesn`t start hitting the ball with more authority. Taken by the Phillies in the Rule 5 draft, Donachie was immediately traded to Baltimore, where the ubiquitous Paul Bako stands in his way. 2006 You wouldn`t ordinarily call a fractured skull a blessing, but it might have been for Donachie. A 2nd-round pick in 2002, he hit .203 with a single homer in his first two pro seasons, while being dogged by accusations that he wasn`t serious about his career. Then his 2004 season ended when a teammate`s BP swing caught him flush in the noggin. He returned last season a new player. We`ll have to see how he hits outside of High Desert, but a young catcher with plate discipline and power is the very definition of a sleeper prospect.
