2013 Trevor Crowe was a first-round pick in 2005 and had promising seasons in both 2006 and 2008, but he was never able to solve major-league pitching, though he retains enough speed and defensive ability that he should stick around the game as a backup outfielder for a while.
2012 Trevor Crowe, aka Ezequiel Carrera Sr., spent much of 2011 in Triple-A after he received his big opportunity in 2010 and failed to impress. Speed and defense are Crowe's calling cards, though neither is quite as good as Carrera's, and Crowe is three years older. With a career .268/.346/.394 triple-slash at Triple-A, Crowe's bat is less questionable than it is simply insufficient. With few years left before his speed goes into decline, Crowe looks like a Triple-A lifer or a defensive replacement/pinch runner on a bad team.
2011 Crowe has an impressive minor-league track record, at least for hitting line drives, drawing some walks, and running well, but the bat just hasn't translated to the big leagues, a direct result of his dissipating patience. At 27, he's not going to get better skills-wise, but he could get smarter and turn into a decent bench outfielder. After last season, it will be tough for him to get another opportunity as an everyday player.
2010 Crowe was on the Opening Day roster after David Dellucci went on the DL with a strained calf muscle, but it was pretty much downhill from there. He never could put it together in the majors in three separate stints, but at least he hit well in Columbus when he wasn't shuttling back and forth, absorbing the picturesque views along I-71. As Brantley has progressed, Crowe’s role has diminished to fourth outfielderdom, if even that; a fully healthy Sizemore probably erases his opportunity to stick.
2009 Crowe missed more than a month from early April to mid-May with lower back tightness, and started off terribly, hitting .155 in his first 58 at-bats. From then on, he lit the afterburners to thaw his frozen prospect star. A 27-for-49 stretch in late June was followed shortly thereafter by his first trip to Buffalo, where he kept on hitting. Like Brantley, Crowe has the speed but not the natural instinct to man center, and despite last season's outburst his power potential is still questionable in the corners. As the Crowe flies, however, it shouldn't be a long trip at all from the team's new affiliate in Columbus to Cleveland.
2008 Crowe looked like one of the better pure leadoff men in the minors entering the year, but failed to get his average above the Mendoza line until late June. He was quite good from then on, hitting .314/.384/.428 after the break. Crowe's biggest weakness is his defense; his range is somewhat limited for an everyday center fielder, and this isn't the 1980s so his bat won't carry a corner spot. That makes him a 'tweener, and that's not a good thing to be if you want to start in the major leagues.
2007 The team`s first-round pick in 2005, Crowe`s full-season debut was pretty stunning. He reached base 122 times in 60 games for Kinston before an ankle injury, a muscle strain in his rib cage, and a very short-lived (six errors in six games) move to second base limited him at Akron. More than just an on-base machine, Crowe should be good for 10 to 15 home runs a year. The only problem is that Sizemore is this organization`s center fielder, so Crowe will have to provide enough production for left field, where offensive expectations are much higher.

2013-02-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Any news out of camp on Trevor Crowe?
(MarcoVillaCards from New York)
Hi Marco. Crowe signed a minor league deal with the Astros. It's doubtful he'll break camp with the club, though it doesn't take a lot of imagination to see him beating Rick Ankiel out for a spot. Crowe is organizational depth, though, and unless you're in a super deep AL-only Ultra league, I'd cross his name off of your list. (Mike Gianella)
2009-08-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Can you concoct an explanation of why it makes sense to use a combination of an injured Trevor Crowe, a talent-limited Chris Gimenez, and adorable-but-miniscule Jamey Carroll in corner outfield slots while Matt LaPorta (and others) wander around in the wilds of Columbus? My best shots involve YouTube threats and heavy metal ingestion.
(buffum from Austin TX)
If this were the NFL, I'd say "improving your draft position". LaPorta didn't say that Shapiro "dresses like a pimp" or anything like that, did he? Otherwise, I can't explain it. LaPorta's continued presence in AAA ranks with casting Michael Caine in "Blame It On Rio" on the misallocation of resources scale. (Ken Funck)
