2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)David Wright, Mike Minor, James Shields, Gregory Polanco for Paul Goldschmidt, George Springer and Dellin Betances. Would you make this move or is it not enough for Goldy?
(Jimbo from LA)
This is bordering on too many moving parts but I think this is fair, unless you suddenly find yourself in need of starting pitchers. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-04-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)I've been getting crushed by injuries early. I'm in a 15 team mixed where my only healthy closer left is Latroy Hawkins, yeah I know. There are no closers on waivers and most of the really good closers in waiting are taken. I'm looking at names like A.J Ramos, Jake McGee and Edward Mujica. If you're speculating on future saves are there any under the radar options that people might not be that familiar with? Thanks.
(KcDozer from Florida)
Starting to think there are no healthy relievers left. I would say Cody Allen but Bret Sayre has blown him up already. Daniel Webb on the White Sox should get a look if Matt Lindstrom fails in Nate Jonesí absence. Jeurys Familia has his issues and isnít exactly holding it down this year but he still throws hard and has a slider which is the requisite closer starting kit. Dellin Betances can get a look, there are a few names out there. (Mauricio Rubio)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)What separates Tyler Matzek from someone like Dellin Betances or any number of pitchers that never could really find the strike zone? Stuff? Age? Experience? I realize Betances is much older, which hurts the comparison a bit, but I have never understood why some prospects are afforded a much longer rope when they struggle. Is it simply a case by case scouting thing?
(Anthony from Long Island)
Athleticism. Betances is a well below-average athlete and struggles with adjustments. Matzek has a much better chance of smoothing it out. (Jason Parks)
2012-12-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Back in August you wrote about the top 10 prospects in the minors (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=17780). You ranked Taijuan Walker 7th. 2012 was by no means a breeze for Walker, but with his athleticism, there is less to worry about than say someone with Dellin Betances' athleticism. What adjustments does Walker need to make this season and how soon before we see him in Seattle?
(Jackson from Charming, CA)
He needs to continue to refine his FB command and the utility of his secondary arsenal, especially his change-up. He's a top ten prospect in the game, and I think he gets a cup in 2013; could be in the rotation in '14. (Jason Parks)
2012-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Dellin Betances got ranked #63 prospect before this year by BOTH BP and BA. 1) What are the odds? 2) WHY??? I mean, Yankees prospects come in two tastes: either Catcher prospects that won't stick behind the plate or Fireballers without control. Wouldn't it be wiser to steer clear of them?
(Guillermo from Montevideo, Uruguay)
No. But it would be wiser to focus on the individual players/prospect, removing the hype associated with the team or the stigma associated with the distinctions. Every prospect is unique. (Jason Parks)
2012-01-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hope you can help me! In an AL-only dynasty league, which of these prospects would you NOT trade for JJ Hardy to fill a dire need at SS - Leonys Martin, Travis D'Arnaud, Dellin Betances, Matt Moore, Neil Ramirez, Anthony Gose
(jtanker33 from Dayton)
If you're all in for this season, then Moore is the only one I'd say is untouchable. That said, you shouldn't need to deal some of these other guys for Hardy either. D'Arnaud and Betances should be taken off the table if at all possible. I'd try to deal Ramirez first. (Derek Carty)
2011-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)In five years Dellin Betances will be: a)mid-rotation starter with frontline stuff? OR: b)Daniel Cabrera redux.
(T from NYC)
C. Late-inning reliever. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-03-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)From what I have seen of Dellin Betances (Pitcher-Yankees)I think he is destined to be Mariano's replacement. What do you think?
(bfitzge3 from Upstate NY)
Is he getting paid $35 million? Betances is ticketed for the rotation, and the better he pitches in the minors, the less likely he'll be to get any saves. (Cory Schwartz)
2008-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Care to explain the "Dellin Betances has some serious issues" part?
(david from chi, ill)
He's had some kind of injury issues every year as a pro, and he's walked pretty much one guy for every two innings pitched. Those are issues. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-05-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)How serious are Dellin Betances's control issues? Has Zach McAllister passed him as a prospect?
(Jon from NJ)
He's walked 32 in 47 innings, so pretty serious. At the same time, he's allowed just 27 hits and struck out 57, so that's serious stuff. Again, bet on the stuff, and Betances is the better prospect. (Kevin Goldstein)
